Stream is not working

Sounds like the internal tab attached to the trigger is broken. Unplug unit, let cool. Pry up the rubber cushion from the handle, working from the front to the rear cord, You will probably see the tab lying on the switch. New trigger assy can be had from Rowenta Service Center:

This would be my first choice as your boiler is working fine. Good luck and tell us how things get resolved.

Steam is not coming out of the iron....

I'm not an iron expert, but assuming you have water in it I would think that either the iron isn't warming OR there is internal restriction from mineral build-up preventing the water to flow. Is this a new iron or a well used one?

I have an older model

Frankly, I never use or "need" to use deposit removers (vinegar or CLR) just because I only use filtered water in the tank and use all the water until the unit is totally dry, using the blast of steam to clear out as much as possible. I remove the blue reservoir entirely, wait for the iron to be totally cool to the touch, open up the trim knob and sloted metal screw with a penny and shake out the rest of the water as much as possible. I leave the whole works to dry overnight or longer and only then do we pack it back up for storate. Just my way, don't like putting acids or salts into any metal tank for safety reason.

My puppy has just chewed

The cord that comes with the DG980 is mighty handy because it is nice and long. I would just get a brand new one, You do not want loved ones to be around a "modified" cord. JMHO :o)

Leaking water when I push

It sounds like you do not have the heater setting not high enough to provide vaporize the water in the heater tank. Did you adjust the temperature on the main unit to the "cloud" (steam) setting? I would also check when the unit is cold that the reservoir (behind the trim knob is a metal screw (use a penny to remove it) and shake out all water in there. I always use the burst of steam when I am finished to purge the system of all standing water. Also make sure you only use clear filtered drinking water with low mineral content (I use our kitchen Reverse Osmosis 5 stage Water filter in the iron only).

Sand like particles come out when pressing the

I'm guessing that these particles are white or almost white. If so, it is just a build up of chalk from hard water. You will probably find that they just brush off the clothing with your hand. Just buy yourself a proprietary steam iron descaler and follow the instructions, all should be well

The rocker button to enable

The stem rod for the steam control is choke or faulty. These prevent the water going onto the sole plate that why no steam. It is possible that there is dirt that has accumulated into the stem of the steam button and is sticking the button. It is better to remove the lid and make a good cleaning to free the movement. use good spray of jet air, use WD40 to remove dirt and free.---------------- Pull the button up. You may have to coax it up; You can pry it back to the up position with a needle. Grasp it firmly and pull it straight off (it is fitted in place by friction only). Below the button is a stem that operates the valve, gently full it back up with a pair of needle nose pliers (careful - the stem is plastic). Replace the button (align the stem into the hole on the bottom of the button. Cycle the button a few times with water in the reservoir. It seems like it sticks when the iron is left unused for a period of time; or the dirt get collected under the button. As if the valve sticks when dry. You can leave some water in it when not in use. --------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Rowenta DG980 Expert Steam Generator Red

The problem will be with the level switch in the tank.

I've checked for a service manual without any luck and checked all the spares sites I know and there's no reference to a replacement level switch.

How would you be for opening the base and checking for loose or broken connections?

Please let me know how to clean this iron

Oops. I assume you did not use distilled water. CLR or any other calcium/lime/rust remover.
Unplug. Fill reservoir with CLR. Pour CLR into a pan and soak bottom. Give it time to work.
Rinse throughly with distilled water. Burning the cleaner could make a bigger mess than the one you have now.

The iron doesn't turn on

Generally bad connection... most likely the power cord. Also could be a problem with the bad switch; here you can find this assembly drawing of the DG980 to help you identify this part and ask about replacement... DG980-Schematic (pdf)

You can
go to smallappliance.com and buy a new switch and orther parts that you need.

Hope this helps.
