It could be the print heads need cleaning. Depending on the model of printer you can either do a clean through the actual printer or through the settings on a laptop or computer that is linked to the printer.

there is nothing to look for it told you it is past the end of it's life so buy a new unit

Sad to inform you because unit is no longer repairable so the only thing you can do is to buy a new one.
