simple steps on all DEAD LT
- take out the battery does it work now y/n???????
- does the ESC key BIOS key work? power on hammer ESC or F9 or F11, if those all work the BIOS IS GOOD and power is ok
- if BIOS is dead the power pack is bad. (or worse, worse in not limited at all with over 3billion transistors inside.
- see this?

The power pack is bad if the PC will not run with AC only. battery out.
the pack can be bad. AC line pack its like $15 , vastly less than the typ. $300 shop labor charge alone..

How to change setting in bios to boot from cd drive"?"
you usually dont have to change the boot order to boot from a cd. the bios should check the cd rom before booting from the hdd. However, if that isnt the case, you can always change the boot order.
go to the bios settings while u turn your laptop on. (It should be "esc" for HP. a message will be displayed at the bottom of the screen indicating the key. if not, try esc, f10, f11, f12. either one of them should work).
go to the boot order settings (May have a different name- boot settings/ boot priority settings/ advance boot options etc.).

Internet explolar 8
You can do this:
[Start], Control Panel, Network and Sharing Center, Change Adapter Settings, click the WiFi, click Change Settings of this Connection.
In the Networking tab, scroll down. If you see unchecked Internal Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) box, then check it.
If you don't see the TCP/IPv4 in the list, then you need to click the Install button and follow the instruction.

Cannot read sd cards
CardS ? You mean several of them ?
What is their capacity ? (the question behind is are you sure they are SD cards, and not SDHC Cards or SDXC Cards, some of them perhaps not supported by an aged card reader)
Scanner won't work with compaq cq58
You orobably do not have the required drivers for the scanner. I suggest you to browse the manufacturer's website and download and install the latest updates from there. Also if they recommend any utitlity along with driver intall it and then try to scan the document. This will hopefully resolve the issue.
I think I have a virus
I would download freeware MALWAREBYTES:
http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/ In Safe Mode with Networking if necessary. In the install UNCHECK the Trial Pro Version, you want the freeware version, run a FULL scan, delete ALL results, reboot normally. I use AVAST FREE 8.0.1489: http://www.fixya.com/answer/answerpageslideview.aspx?ctg=8&thid=18108057 Haven had a Virus in years. Give it a try, it's always rated high in Anti Virus and it's free! First, of course, you have to remove McAfee with the McAfee removal Tool found on the McAfee website.
What now
From the boot manager screen you have to go Change defaults or choose other options. Then select Choose other options. Then select TroubleshootThen select Advanced optionsThen select Startup SettingsThen click restart. This will restart your computer and will give you a list in which you will select from. It should be option 4

This is because the Hard Disk Drive has failed and you need it replaced. If your warranty is still valid, take it back for repairs or buy another hard disk drive altogether.
