Hp 7520 carriage slams back & forth and then says it is jammed but can be moved freely

Hi Going to resurrect this old thread as my experience may be of some use. My HP 7520 kept coming up with error 0x610000f6. You could hear the carriage moving and clunking as it hit the end stops. Thought it was probably the encoder strip or sensor took the printer apart and cleaned / checked both looked ok. reassembled the printer still no joy. As I had the sides off the printer I noticed that the ink catch / cleaning tray seemed to not want to move (mentioned in post above). with the side off the printer it is easy to move the tray. After a bit of wiggling the printer booted up ok. It still errors every now and then but again a bit of fiddling sorts it out until next time. I should strip it down and find the problem but as the whole ink trak is filthy I cant be bothered. Maybe if it gets worse I will if I do I will post some pictures. Here is what you need to do to check the ink tray: Open the lid as if you were going to change cartridges. Does the carnage move freely? If not then you probably have a different problem. On the right hand side (opposite the screen) there are two torx screws you can now see under where the lid was. Remove these. Remove the ridged plastic band that runs around the bottom right hand side of the printer.Start at the front lever the top left hand corner out with a small screwdriver. Whilst holding this out slide the front section to the right. Once this has unclipped pull the whole ribbed piece of plastic forward. Now the ribbed plastic band should come away. Remove the side panel that the two screws held in place. Now you can see into the printer. Close lid and turn on and look and see what happens. If the carriage moves from side to side and hits the end stop on the open side of the printer but the small white gear under the ink tray does not move then it is jammed as mine was. Turn off printer. Open lid again. move carriage out of way. Put some disposable gloves on. Where the carriage stops on the right had side it pushes a small lever. Push this with one hand with the other hand gently move the ink catch tray back and forth. Once it is moving ok pus back to back position. Close lid power on. Hopefully that will sort it out? Spent ages looking on the internet for a solution this thread was the closest I found, amongst all the HP junk telling me I had a paper jam. Hope this is of use to someone.

Error code 0x610000f6.. would this be related to refiled cartridges

Hi paschal karl The error code you are seeing may or may not have to do with the cartridges being refilled. Here's the thing, yes, you can refill your cartridges or use re manufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems. QualityLogic, one of the world's foremost quality assurance organizations, tested the performance of HP inkjet print cartridges vs. re manufactured (refilled) brands. The results: original HP inkjet print cartridges far surpassed ink refills in both print quality and reliability.
  • Nearly one out of every six refilled ink cartridges tested was dead on arrival or failed prematurely
  • 70% of refilled cartridges had some form of reliability problem
Count on HP original ink cartridges for consistent, worry-free printing. You may think you're saving money on re manufactured or refilled ink cartridges, but in the long run, the cost of wasted time, ink, and paper can more than make up the difference. -Source Most people think, 'well of course that is what HP or an HP representative would say', but I have done some research and found that many others have too. Here is a perfect example of somebody who does not work for HP in any way and basically is a customer advocate (in my opinion) ;Should you refill your printer's ink cartridges? HP says no (of course) By Matthew Murray I found the above article interesting and genuine. To summarize, again, yes you can refill the cartridges. The printer is not programmed to reject them. Sometimes the cartridges will not work and of course because they are non HP, HP would not be able to do anything to help. HP cartridges have a 2 year manufacture warranty;Limited Warranty for HP Ink Cartridges and Customer-Replaceable Printheads for HP Inkjet Supplies, this may give you comfort knowing HP stand behind their product. Perhaps you will find the following document helpful: HP Printers Problem with Printhead Printer Failure Ink System Failure or... I hope this helps. I work on behalf of HP.

Why does my 7520 printer print old documents.

Your computer has "queued" various pages to be printed. When it detects that it cannot completely complete the output, it restarts the sending of the information to the printer. From the Windows "Control Panel", select "Printers". Select your printer. Click to "show what is printing". From there, you can select an item, and choose to "cancel" it.

Does startup ink cartridge have to be replaced after it is empty

Yes if you want the printer to print. Many printer makers are using startup carts now so you will buy the new ones soon. I would wait until you can no longer put up with the warning message or it runs out of ink to replace the cartridge.
