Troy bilt model 109429( year-1986 )v belt
Be sure to compare the removed belt to the new belt for length and width. Often belts get mis-packaged into the wrong container or otherwise mis-labeled. A belt that is even 1/4" longer will not provide the correct contact tension. Also be sure the pins that the carriage moves on are lubricated. Corrosion can keep the carriage from keeping tension on the belt as the carriage weight can not tension the belt. Hope this helps.

Troy bilt chipper/vac model 47287 manual
I bought a bad photocopy of the Operator manual from a seller on eBay, and put it online:http://asavage.dyndns.org/Troy-Bilt/It\'s not great quality, but it\'s better than nothing.I\'ve got some parts manual pages there, too. Also of dubious quality, but you can make out the part numbers.

Chipper model 47287 reverse wont stop when you let off lever very hard to change gears when running but when its off they are easy to change
Be gentle, that shift cable is NLA (I know, I need one).It sounds as if the belt idler is not releasing. Take a look at the belt engage cable, Ref. No. 9 on this exploded view:ftp://asavage.dyndns.org/Troy-Bilt/47287-ChipperVac/47287c-47287c02.07.gifThe spring at the end of that cable is what releases the idler from the belt. Another pic of the spring is near the idler arm Ref. No. 13 on this view:ftp://asavage.dyndns.org/Troy-Bilt/47287-ChipperVac/47287c-47287c02.05.gifIf that spring is broken or missing, that would give the symptoms you describe.HTH

How does one change the drive belt on a Craftsman
I'm a step behind you on this problem. I have the exact same model, and the belt fell apart. I was given this unit, and I doubt the belt was ever replaced before. Do you happen to know what size belt it is? I tried calling Sears; and they didn't have the part anymore and they were of no use on getting a cross reference number. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
