Canon G10: clicking properties on camera movie files gives creation time, but after copying to computer, properties only gives copy time, not original creation time. Where did the original time go?

If you use the camera cable or a card reader to get the photos on your computer, the metadata is there. When you copy the same picture the metadata is lost and is replaced by the new data at the time it was copied.

"cannot detect camera"

Have you tried installing the software and then rebooting the computer. Quite often that's all that's required for the computer to recognize the camera.

My display screen is showing pixelated noise, or completely black. When it does display, all I get are off colour, horizontal dancing lines.

Camera is defect for sure, but don't tell anyone in the service centre, because they warn you not to take a camera out in extreme cold. You should not se the camera in environments below zero degrees I'm afraid you can't fix it yourself, and before bringing it to a Canon Certified repair centre, ask them what it could cost.

This is most often a problem with the imaging sensor and no reset is going to repair the part. Also, if replacing it, it needs to be properly calibrated after installed. If you need help with this, this is the place we recommend for the Canons: www.CamerasAndParts.com They are the best for these models, they only work on Canons and they are excellent for repairs. They have a service package for about $90 which takes care of an image problem as you have or you can try emailing them first. As far as service and the quality of work, I wouldn't go anywhere else but them for a Powershot. They are the best for these cameras. Good luck

I'm having problems trying to transfer pictures

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer. The best way to transfer pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries. Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa. Organize edit and share your photos

When switching camera on there is a blank screen

In settings, you might have switched off the image for when the camera starts. Turn it back on. Also, if that doesn't work, try deleting some photos or change the sim card or the battery itself, not charge it.
