Bought a blackberry pearl flip off ebay, got it
Hi there,
Open up the phone application, hit the blackberry button (to the left of the ball) and go to Options.
From there, look for "smart dialing" - click on that one.
In there, look for Conutry Code and Area code - make sure that area code is empty and the country code is the correct one for your country. The number length should also be changed to match.
Hit the blackberry button again when done, and save.
You should be all good now!

The best way to unlock your Blackberry is to buy unlock codes from a trusted vendor.
Search internet for mobile phone unlocking websites. You will come across a thousand websites who can do this. Choose which ever you like. Do look for price comparisons and the unlocking instructions.
Recheck the Model number- Network to which your phone is locked to and the IMEI number before placing an order. If you made any mistakes in these details these people will never give you a refund!!
One more thing, before placing an order ask them about the conditions for getting a full refund in the case of a code failure! Think and make a wise decision.
I have personally bought the code for my Blackberry Storm from unlockgenie.com. It is because they have good reviews on most of the mobile phone forums. I got my phone unlocked successfully from that website. I think their codes don't fail. The web link for the above mentioned web site ishttp://unlockgenie.com/

How to Reset a Blackberry
There are three main types of Reset that apply to the Blackberry. These are listed in order below. Instructions for Blackberry Pearl are slightly different - see bottom section of the Tip.
1) Soft Reset - simply press the ALT+RIGHT SHIFT(CAP)+DELETE keys.
This reset stops all applications that are running on the Blackberry and will help if you are having problems connecting the device to computer. This reset will not erase any information from your device.
2) Double Soft Reset - this reset is almost equivalent to a full hard reset. First perform a Soft Reset as outlined in Step 1.
As soon as the screen is no longer black - repeat the steps once again exactly as before.
This takes you to another screen showing an hour glass. Allow the device to reset. This helps if the device has suffered a more serious error. Be aware you may loose some information from your device. A backup is advised prior to proceeding if at all possible.
3) Hard Reset - this is the full blown reset and will fully reset the device to help resolve critical errors with software or hardware. Again back up important information before proceeding if possible.
Note: For RIM models 850, 857, 950, or 957, you must insert the end of a paperclip or similar blunt object into a small recessed hole on the back of the unit and depress the switch inside. The device will reboot and be hard reset.
Other Models: With the device turned on - remove the battery for 30 seconds or more. Now replace the battery. The device will reboot and be hard reset.
Blackberry Pearl: To reset to factory defaults enter 'Options' from the main menu. Scroll to Security Options and press the trackball. Choose 'General Settings'.
Press the left soft key, then scroll to "Wipe Handheld" with the trackball and press the trackball. To initiate the factory reset, your phones security code may be required in order for the process to complete. Your phone will now be restored to its original settings on leaving the factory.
A hard reset can be achieved with the Pearl in the same way as outlined at Step 3 by removing the battery.
Be aware that resets such as these may erase data, such as contacts, ring tones, pictures, text messages and stored Internet files and emails. Make sure to back up important information before hand if at all possible. You can obtain software to back up the device to your computer directly from Blackberry Below.

You have to update the software via Blackberry Desktop Manager. Timing is key as it maynot work the first time... It may take 20-50 tries but this is the only way to get it back up. If you can indeed get it back up everything will be erased. Sorry for the bad information. I’m happy to assist further over the phone at

When an issue such as this happens, you can simply take the battery out while the device is powered up, let it sit for 1 minute, then reinstall the battery, and power the device back up. This is called a hard reset, and will not damage the handset. If the issue persist, then you may be looking at a more serious issue and may need to have the device repaired, or replaced.

Either bad battery or bad battery port.
