Electrical cord burned
If the cord burned off yuo will need to split the end of the plug and usually they just clip in to the plug but usally the plug has a rivit that hold it together and is hard to replace easier to go to home depot or lowes and find a new cord, i got one at a ben franklins store.otherwise it doesnt matter which wire goes on which side of the plug.
Replacing Cord on 100 Cup Coffee Urn
The black clip that you are talking about seems to be a type of "lock" that was commonly used to prevent the cord from being pulled from the appliance by accident. You will need this part to "lock" the cord into the new base. I would recommend that you try to break the old base from around the cord trying not to damage the clip. You'll then be able to insert the "old" clip into the matching slot in the new base. I believe that the part itself is called a "locking strain relief".
36 cup coffee maker
Are you using the correct size paper filter for the basket? Are you putting too much coffee in?

Where would i find an electrical cord for my West bend coffee maker?
First, I'm NOT a West Blend tech. But I've worked on similar brewers.
*** Call your vendor or service provider, especially if the equipment is on loan. ***
* Most table top coffee brewers (banquets) use the same cord (unless your in Europe). You will find that many brands have the matching cords. Check with your vendor for a replacement.
* You should be able to locate a plug at your local appliance store, MFR outlet dealer, and Amazon.
* These plugs are commonly found in places like Mom+Pop stores, Wal-Mart, or your local Thrift store.
* These cords usually have a bakelite plastic connector which will burn if attached to brewer when the plug was soaking in wash water or run though the dish washer. Replace any plug/cord that smells burning plastic or has a crumbly appearance.
