When I start up my laptop, a black screen will pop

HI yellowlizard

these things always happen when you turn off your computer the wrong way (turn off the power directly from suiz or short circuit occurs) or damage to the operating system in general.
What you need to do is to repair your operating system using the operating system CD, do the chkdsk / r and fixboot.

When I start up my

it is probably a program that starts up overloads the system resources, so everytime it starts it freezes. what you can do is go into safe mode (go into safe mode by hitting f8 right before windows logo comes up when you start your computer, or right after dell logo. either that, or if you restart it wrong, it should give you the option of going into safe mode) then when you log onto your account, a window will pop out, just click yes. then either go to start menu on run(if you have windows xp) and type msconfig. then a window will pop out, when it does, go to the startup tab, and uncheck all of the boxes. click ok, and click restart, (for windows 7 its the same thing but instead of using run, just type it in the search bar on the start menu). go to start windows normally, if it still doesnt work, when you restart it, go to last known configuration. Hope this helps. If you need any clarification, just let me know, ill check in. Goodluck

Take a Q tip and put a dab of rubbing alcohol, very carefully clean the Laser assembly eye in a circular motion lightly, allow several minutes to dry. I hope this will solve your problem, if you still have problems, go to ebay online and look up your make and model to look for a replacement.

My dell latitude e5500 laptop is password

If it is the BIOs password, read about how to reset it here: http://www.fixya.com/support/r7229632-reset_or_remove_bios_password

If it is in Windows and you have another account on your laptop that has administrator rights, log in into that account and change the password for your account. If you have an administrator account (even if you don't try putting in Administrator and leave password field blank) try using that account to reset the password, otherwise try one of the following:

- see this for XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321305
- or this for Vista/Win7 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/What-to-do-if-you-forget-your-Windows-password
- or if anything else didn't work you can use thrid party software from Hiren's Boot CD http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/Hirens.BootCD.12.0.zip
