2001 kawasaki KLX 300 "wheeler starts dies" Questions

wheeler will idle, but dies when I give it gas check to see if the choke is stuck or the carb could be dirty (gummed up) I gotta 96 Suzuki quad runner. I inherited it and can't seem to get it running.
