2000 Lexus ES 300 "4th gear overdrive work" Questions

4th gear not work 97-2002 model pretty much same car press overdrive button on and off works you can see the indicator light on dash but when driving and speeds over 45mph or so car stays in 3 rd gear

How does overdrive work Essentially an overdrive is a gear after 4th gear. 4th is 1:1 ratio so anything above this is geared up or , overgeared hence 'overdrive'

figure this thing out? Probably a shift solinoid in the gear box. My commodore has 2 (1st & 2nd) & (3rd & 4th) my 3 / 4 solinoid went so went 1st 2nd 3rd but not to 4th until I replaced it
