computer will not communicate with printer

printer Bought a new printer LEXMARK 1200 series. installed from disc provided but my dell computer wont communicate. Tried disconnect USBP tried disconnect power tried re-start computer Still no communication although in printers on control panel it says that printer is ready My computer is a dell and has windows vista. Can you help more...
