Phone says not sim mode but their is a sim card inside??? check for flight mode option. which switches off the sim card usage. try pressing power button once and look if flight mode option is present.
silent, outdoor, meeting, offline, if you have the offline mode, you can use it. or just remove your sim and switch it on. if it goes to offline or no sim mode, you can use it as mp3 player. good luck
