Dictaphone 2740 Desktop Cassette Transcriber / Recorder "2720 manual" Questions

2720 and it won't play the tapes. It will rewind and fastforward but not play. I don't have the manual. Does anyone know if I'm not doing something right? It's possible the play capstan belt is broken
