Ac electric works with generator but not when plugged in to 110 volt from the outside

I had my rv plugged in to my power source and I started my generator for a couple of minutes to move new gas into the system, when I shut down the generator I no longer have electricity from my outside plug, I start the generator and I have 110

Another place to check would be at the shore power disconnect. Have the cover of and visible to look at the switches. Remember that a generator running will prevent the shore power connection at that box and if anything is corroded inside, it will not work properly. Bob provided good information to follow, you just need patience and diligence to trace the source. Having generator power but no outside shore power from a pedistal would tell me the start at the shore power disconnect.

I would be checking the main breakers on the panel to insure one didnt trip when you added generator electric. is there a breaker on the outside line at the box you may be missing? Also keep in mind, although uncommon, breakers do BREAK and need replacing. are you competent enough to use a volt meter to check the hot leads on the box and at your unit breaker box to insure you are getting power into the unit? In some older units the switch between land power and generator power was to manually throw breaker switches but automatic processors have replace them now... I would say start at the residential plug in and verify power is where it should be along the route of the supply cord...from the meter forward... if you have a converter plug, say from the 220V 30 amp that you are probably drawing down to 110V household, stick that on the meter and plug in your toaster to insure there is power coming in....IF YOU DONT HAVE A METER AVAILABLE... otherwise...test test test... your generator probably broke a circuit somewhere... now just to find it..

There is a plate on the machine:
- If it says 220 volts, there is nothing that can be done, it cannot be used here.  You should have supported an American dealer because you are totally hooped. 

- If it says 110 to 120 volts, it should be working with your new plug.  but since it is not working, you will have to bring it to a service shop.

- If it says 110 - 220 volts, it should be working with your new plug.  but since it is not working, you will have to bring it to a service shop.

To flash the excitor circuit on a coleman ( the generator is built by generac) you need a 12 volt battery. You quickly apply 12 volts via your 120vac recepticals. NO MORE THAN ONE OR TWO SECONDS! Then check you ac voltage. Most of the time the brushes are burnt up when voltage is low. Check the brushes first. You can access them by taking the end cap off of the generator via two to four screws. The brush holder is easy to spot, two wires leading to the front of the amature. Hope this solves your problem.

your micrwave may run fine at 110 but it draws more power than the generator is putting out when the magnetron kicks on which is the part that creates the microwave causing the food to heat up. In other words the amperage is too low for the microwave. Amperage is what matters not voltage.

This is a frequency issue 50 hertz for Europe, 60 hertz in US. It's speed related. Faster RPM for 60 Hz

Lost 120 volts on coachmen Somerset dreamcatcher 32.5 while hooked up to power pole. still have 12 volts.all converter fuses and power panel circuit breakers good. Power from pole is good.


First, I'm not a Coachmen RV Tech. (but most DC to AC inverters are not brand specific.)
* Check inverter fuse (on actual inverter frame). Replace.
* Check DC voltage at inverter. Should be 12 (or 24 VDC) depending on your system battery supply and inverter.
* Check the DC cable connections; crusty, dirty? Cut all power. Remove and clean terminals. Re-connect and check.
* DC okay? Check 110 VAC power at output of inverter. No power? Replace inverter. (possible power spike damaged it or it over heated)
* 110 VAC okay? Check the power panel breakers. If stuck in middle then turn all the way off to reset and turn all the way back on to activate. Check AC power at outlet(s)
* Still no power (at outlet)? Check all outlets. If some still works then there is a problem with the power (wires) distribution. You will need an electrician to trace the wires back to the break in circuit.
* Be safe. check your warranty and call for service.
* Note; your inverter may be on a separate warranty.

The most common problem is blown main fuses on the power unit which blow when you operate or try to operate the slides with low batteries and the power supply not connected to the landline power source.

2010 forest river Lexington ... Why do I lose elec. power even when connected to 30 amp power source ? Inverter recently new ... Is there a converter issue ?


need to use multimeter and check solenoids under the hood. also do you have power when engine or generator is running? if so. then you probably have a bad solenoid. use multimeter and check 12 volt and 110 power. locate converter and check power output. also check power panel and make sure all fuses are good.

1983 RV Ford econoline Onan 4.0 Gen set Generator, battery shows good, but it will not even click, let alone start. JLast start at the repair shop was two days ago.


Do you have your switch turned on for your auxillary battery? That is the power source to start your generator. It also charges your auxillary battery. Hope this helps you.

side the main load center protect all
120-volt wiring and components in the RV fr
om circuit overloads and short circuits.
Should a circuit overload or short circui

affected circuit will "trip" preventing the flow of electricity through that circuit.
If a circuit breaker trips, shut "off"
the appliance on that circuit (i.e., power
converter etc.) and allow the circuit breaker to cool down for a brief period of time.
After the cooling down period, reset the circuit breaker by moving its lever "off" and
then back to the "on" position. If the circuit breaker re-trips or frequently trips,
contact your dealer to have the electrical problem diagnosed and repaired.
A circuit breaker identification label is permanently attached to the inside surface
of the 120-volt load center.
Maintenance and Replacement
At the beginning of camping season, inspect the circuit breakers and replace as
needed. Test by turning each circuit breaker "off" and back "on". Circuit breakers
are wearable parts and must be replaced
as needed, as part of your RV
maintenance. If you have any questions, consult your dealer.
Please contact your dealer for repair assistance when replacing circuit breakers.
CONVERTER
The power converter converts 120-volt AC power to useable 12-volt DC power
when the shore power cord is connected to an external power source.
The converter has a built-in protective thermal breaker that will shut it down should
overheating occur. Overheating can be
caused by operating the converter above
its maximum power output for an extended period of time, or by an obstruction to
its ventilation air flow. To reduce converter heat build keep unnecessary 12-volt
lights and motors turned "off"
.
Keep the converter cooling fins and fan clear of
obstructions.
Inspection and maintenance
If the 12-volt power converter is not working (auxiliary battery not being charged)
check the reverse polarity fuse(s) in the converter fuse panel.
There are no
customer serviceable parts inside the converter case and the
manufacturer's warranty will be void if
the case has been removed
. If you

Elec. hooked up. new battery. lights will go very dim. compressor on a/c stops working but fan still blows. can turn off a/c and converter breakers and lights come back bright. if I leave for a few days...


there is a sort some were and it will need to be rectified before it over heats or catches fire.check wiring without the battery on with a meter. turn every thing off and test lines then turn one thing on test then turn on something else keep doing this on all electrical equipment till you find the unit at fault.

I BELIEVE AN INVERTER WILL BOOST IT FROM 110 TO 220 A ALL IN ONE TRANSFORMER WILL WORK

Your AC (air conditioner) would only run on AC (alternating current - shore power) so there would be a circuit breaker. Fuses are for DC (direct current - batteries).

That said, 16A is a very odd number for a circuit breaker (or fuse).

Your AC will only run if you are connected to shore power or have a generator. (Very large inverter and a lot of house batteries is technically possible but very unlikely and it wouldn't have been built that way).

If your AC actually draws 16A then being connected to a 30A outlet is fine, I have actually connected mine to a 20A outlet at home to test it but I made sure nothing else was turned on fridge, heaters, water heater etc).

ac runs off 120 volts refrigerator 120 volts heater element 12 volt heater element and control board outside lights 12 volt ceiling fan 12 volts wires that go to box 2 blue furnace 12 volt wires from thermostat 12 volt
