refill the battery with electrolyt and charge it fully, then try to start the vehicle
If it cranks/turns over no faster have the starter motor checked.
Ensure that the timing belt is intact before you do anything, and that it is in the correct position.
Ensure that the oil is clear of water and is clean and is topped up to the top mark on the dipstick
Assuming you have checked the above and the belt and oil/coolant is all as they should be, and you have a fully charged battery and the starter is ok .......attempt to start the vehicle. Turn it over/ crank it over a few times if it does not start immediately.
Should it not start perform a compression check to find out the
engine's state of health.
Then come back with the results and we can go feom there.
Add the detail of your work and the make and model of the vehicle, along with the engine option, and repost the query
Hey Tom if its rain, look to see if moisture is affecting wires a spray of WD-40 in and around electrical could really help and wont hurt any thing WD stands for =water dispersant.
bad plug (replace plug), bad gas (empty gas, remix to mfg specs, refill tank), improper oil to gas ratio (see bad gas), old gas, choke in off position, corrosion between plug & plug wire (under spark plug boot (pour freshly opened coca-cola on corosion then rinse with distilled water repeat if needed)) clogged air filter (clean filter or replace). if you have visually inspected & or tried all suggusted here & still no joy, take it back to store if it is new, or take to repair shop for maintance.
If the engine will not crank, and the battery is fully charged, the only thing in play is the starter circuit. The ignition and alternator do not get involved until after the engine is started. If the engine died and will not crank, you would need to check for voltage at the starter with the key switch in the start position. You may need a manual with wiring diagrams to trace the circuits.
Upto about 10% gas won't cause a problem (except maybe a slight drop in power).
More than that, and the entire system will have to be drained. Drain & refil the tank, REPLACE the fuel filter, and purge the line to the injectors by cranking the engine until clean diesel appears at the injector union. Use 'easy-start' and keep spraying - the engine will crank itself - saves the battery and starter.
easiest: is the battery good? not so easy: was it flooded enough that it could have sucked water in the intake and gotten into the cylinders? the engine could be seized if this happened.
AS SILLY AS IT SOUNDS ITS YOUR MAX AIR FLOW METER,OR COULD EVEN BE A REALLY DIRTY AIR FILTER, SERIUOSLY BMW HAD MY CAR IN COULDNT FIX IT, MISSED THE FACT THE AIR FILTER WAS FILTHY AND NOT LETTING ENOUGH AIR THROUGH, ICHANGED IT AND IT STARTED FIRST TURN
if it will crank but not start check the ignition components and fuel pressure if it wont even crank check fuses and all starting system electrical connections and components
