SOURCE: Hi 2000 yamaha Vmax, 4600 miles on the clock.

This sounds like a carburetor problem. Either bad gas, partially plugged pilot jets, carb diaphragm cracked or has a pin hole, carbs out of sync or diaphragm cap is not tight. It would be best to have a dealer check it out. However, before going to the dealer I would try one thing. Drain the float bowls on all four carbs. There is a drain plug on the bottom of each bowl. Condensation inside the gas tank can make it's way into the carb. Bikes don't run well with water in the gas. Please rate my solution. Thanks.

Testimonial: "Right on the nail!!!! Thanx for that - could have costed me a bit! When into the Yamaha dealer with the bike and was told that they have to do fault finding and could cost me anything between £80 - £300 ... needles to say, drove right out of there and did your fix - perfect! P.S Sorry for the delayed response - been away!"

SOURCE: I cannot get all four

Hello and welcome to FixYa!
You may just have system failure. As a first course of action, I strongly suggest that you remove the positive battery connector and let it sit for atleast 5mins. before reconnecting it.
This will reset the electrical system in your bike then try to turn the idle screw if it will respond.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

My Yamaha vmax is charging the battery @ 20 volts. Already replaced voltage regulator. Thought that would fix the problem. Any ideals??

You should take some measurements on your stator cables at idle. Between each pair of the three same colored cables that runs up on your regulator, you should have 14-15V at idle and 30V at 3000rpm of Alternative Current (A.C.).

My 2000 vmax might have a high idle at 1200 rpm. what is it supposed to be at and how do i adjust.

wouldnt be too concerned about that most biikes idle around the 1k mark my own included but if looking to reduce idle speed there is a a screw on the side of your engine like a flat head screw driver would fit into not sure which side to your engine but think it might be the right hand side ajust as needed when the engine is on but is idling fine
