I just bought a 1995 Vulcan 88. Inonly has 13009 miles on it and it was cheap. The reason for the cheap price is that it won't start. The previous owner said it died while he was riding "sputtered out like it was out of gas". I have a strong mechanical background as an auto tech but I'm not too familiar with cycle repair (I know it's the same concepts but it seems different). I charged the battery and tried to crank the bike but all I get is a click from the solenoid. When I jumped the solenoid the engine cranked but seemed sluggish even with a jump box attached. Ive heard that these motors are solid and not prone to damage but I was wondering if there are any engine issues common with these bikes that I should know about?
After some checks I found the fuel pump is KIA. I'll be reposting after that gets replaced and the rest of the bike is checked out. After some checks I found the fuel pump is KIA. I'll be reposting after that gets replaced and the rest of the bike is checked out.

the first problem is a dead short in the break light circuit that is blowing the fuse
with a new battery , you will have to reset the ECM to get it to start
If the engine cranks but won't start, the battery and starter are out of the picture. When it won't start, someone will need to check fuel pressure and for spark at the plugs to proceed.
they are spring loaded and mechanical. if a spring wears out or breaks it won't work. you can replace it with another one but the actual miles won't be there or you could go with a digital set.
This sounds like your starter motor has packed up, the clicking sound you hear is the celinoid kicking in, but the starter is not turning, try replacing the starter motor
