i can adjust the idle untill the bike gets warm and when it get warm it stalls and the throttle doesnt do anything. tried to look for the stator online cant find it in any place.

  • Bryan Stanforth Jul 06, 2011

that did help but now it wont idle and i turn the idle screw and it doesnt do anything to the idle at all will start up and run fine if the throttle is held. if it isnt held it dies but it will start back up with the same problem.

  • Bryan Stanforth Jul 07, 2011

Last thing done was the carbs being cleaned about a month ago. Just wentbout to try a few more things and it went back to the will start but will just dye right after even if there is throttle to it.
Has been sitting awhile but I have new gas and new oil in it.

  • Bryan Stanforth Jul 07, 2011

It would start fine but the idle was still not right never got t up to operating temp to adjust but I would start it and run for a little. There is not any smoke that I no about. The oil level is good and I am not sure about the seem of gas in it but I dont think that it does

  • Bryan Stanforth Jul 07, 2011

The air filter is clean. There are no vacuum leaks already checked. I will just have to call as ask the guy about the carbs. But I am thinking it is more of the lines with the electronicol then fuel

The fuel is fine. Plugs are good and I get spark.

This seems to be that the engine gets STARVED when it is warm . So in the first place you need to check the fuel flow to confirm if the temperature relativity is confirmed. Check the fuel flow to the carburator, check the settings of the fuel / air mixture. Initially set the carburator to normal settings and then fine tune when the engine runs evenly . If not check the plugs when the engine stalls which will indicate an OVERFLOW or a burnt plug which indicates a good firing.
If there is an overflow detected then it can be related to LOSS of spark when the engine warms up. So check the spark timings on the plug, the intensity of the spark. the voltages on the coil must be good, a positive steady on the + side of the coil and a pulsating voltage on the negative.
If coil is bad, specially failure of insulation then the intensity can drop to no spark after the coil works. So this also must be checked.check the spark gap.
Finally the engine must be tuned and timed after it runs smoothly.

Sounds like your choke cable is stuck. Make sure the choke cable slides freely and turn it down as the bike warms up from a cold start.

When you move the choke lever, it must move the choke valve back into the carb to allow proper fuel/air ratio (more air). You may not see anything move on the carb. You can try to remove the choke cable from the carb to be sure it is sliding in/out.

Normally, you just unscrew the knurled nut on the cable at the carb. The nub on the end of the cable hooks into a slot on the valve. You can only see it after you unscrewt the nut at the carb (the nut is the cable end, not a separate nut next to the cable).

Good luck.

Ok, at least we are getting somewhere. Has the bike been sitting a long time (more than three months) since the last time it worked well?

Also, what was the last work done to the bike? When was the last time the carburators were cleaned and balanced?

    Please answer 1,2 and 3

    1) I assume it worked well right after the carbs were cleaned last month. Is this true?

    2) Is there any white or black smoke forming just before it dies? Easiest to notice if you start it just before sunset and shine a flashlight through the exhaust.

    3) Also, check the oil level. The fuel petcocks from this era of Suzuki tend to leak. Gas flows down through the carbs and into the engine - finally ending in the crank case. Check the oil level, if it is too full, check to make sure the oil doesn't smell like gas.

I am running out of ideas here. The last thing to check would be if t he air filters are clean. You should be able to easily see light pass through them when held up to a light. Hopefully you still have the originals from Suzuki -the put good ones on back then and you just have to spray with some compressed air.

After that, check all vacuum hoses for leaks and balance the carbs if that doesn't help, the next option is to crack open the carbs to look for diaphragm cracks, clogged jets, smooth operation of all moving parts (just because some mechanic's view of a carb cleaning is not really a very good cleaning).

It can be low fuel issue, the fuel not reaching the engine, adjust the idle screw on carb for fuel air mixture.Set the idle up to 1.5.------- The pilot screw is the air/fuel screw on the bottom of each carb. -------turn IN the pilot screw a half turn and see how it runs.----- Also check, if the air filter is clean and not clogged. If all checked ok, and still the same problem, then it can be regulator stator issue. It has to be inspected.Click this link below:--- http://howtobyme.blogspot.com/2011/07/1993-suzuki-katana-600-runs-rough-and.html ----------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Cant accel faster than 6000 rpms on my 1999 600 susuki katana or you can say cant go faster than 75-80 mph it starts to stall or bog out i think

Well one area I recommend you to check is the power jets in the carb. Overall check your jettings because you are starving on high end. To test try closing your choke half way and see if that gives you more pull ower over 6K rev. Good enough?

My 2005 Katana is stalling left and right

Has the bike been sitting for any time longer than 4 days? 4 days is enough to clog idle jets. Cleaning the carbs if it has carbs, is the first defense against idle to low rpm stalls. Pull the carbs and clean them out. Definitley will help you out.

Suzuki katana 600 not running

check your starter switch, it may be even grounding, which would cause all these problems

93 katana 600 wont start

Take one of the plugs out and hold it against the head while the engine cranks. You should get decent spark. If not, you have an ignition problem. If it gets decent spark, try spraying some starting fluid into the air cleaner box. If the engine starts up and runs for a couple seconds, you have a fuel delivery problem.
