If your tank has a petcock tap it has a reserve if the tap can rotate up towards the tank
But most bikes don't have a reserve now if fuel injected and a fuel gauge fitted
Turn fuel petcock to off. Take off fuel line coming from petcock and use that hose, or one the same size, to run from petcock to gas container. (have paper towels or something ready because fuel left trapped in fuel line will leak out even with petcock off). With hose going in container turn petcock to normal "run" position and drain until dry - lean bike side to side to get it all. *Note - it usually drains faster with fuel cap off. Then turn petcock to "reserve" setting and do the same to get the fuel out of reserve partition in tank. Most tanks are only held on by a few bolts at rear and rubber "slide on" knobs at front, so if you remove seat and the few tank bolts you slide tank backwards and it comes off. Then you can do this draining outside / away from anything.
Fuel petcock valves are common on motorcycles which don't have a dedicated fuel level gauge. They are use to turn the fuel tank "on" or "off", and they also have a "reserve" position which taps into a section of the fuel tank which contains reserve fuel to allow you to make it back to a gas station should you run out of fuel in the "on" position.
Start with the fuel tap (called a petcock) in the horizontal position. This is pointing toward the back of the bike, and it is in the "off" position. Turning it counter-clockwise to point up is "on," and turning it clockwise to down is "reserve."
Normally, you'll want to run the bike with the petcock set to on, and save the reserve for the emergency situation when you run out of fuel.
With the age of your machine , you should drain the tank and remove the petcock. If you can take it apart rebuild it. If you have no reserve , either the reserve tube is broken off or the petcock is plugged. It is possible the four hole washer the seals the the lever and diverts the fuel is damaged , worn , or broken. Depending on the over all condition of the petcock replacement of the entire unit may be the best option. At any rate an new fuel petcock would definitely fix this issue. Rebuilding your old petcock is only an option if all the parts you need for it are available.
To see what is wrong you will have to drain the tank and take off the fuel tank outlet(filter assembly). What you should see is a tube sticking up with a fuel filter over it. The tube allows the fuel to enter the carburetor down to that level , when the fuel petcock is in the ON position. When you switch to RESERVE the rest of the fuel flows down through a hole at the base of the fuel petcock. If the tube is missing from the fuel tank outlet(filter assembly) or/and the actual fuel petcock switch (sometimes a separate part )you will not have RESERVE. Another way you have no RESERVE is if you have a leaking four hole washer in your fuel selector. This allows the fuel to flow from RESERVE to ON inside the selector valve(gas leaking in petcock but not escaping outside petcock). "Honda" has all sizes of 4 hole washers available, but , the assembly may not be designed to be taken apart and reassembled. In either case you may end up having to buy an assembly to fix your problem.
Either the intake tube on your fuel petcock has fallen off, Your petcock has worn out and is allowing fuel from the reserve position to leak into the on position hole , or you had the lever in the wrong position. If you had the petcock turned to the correct positions, the you may want to drain the tank and remove the pet **** for inspection. If the fuel inlet tube for the ON position has fallen off, you in effect, have no reserve. If the petcock is worn out you will need to replace it so it will work the way it is supposed to.
there is only one tank to fill on your bike, your getting confused by the reserve. The reserve is just on the fuel tap itself. It has three positions, on , off and reserve. In the on position your fuel tap will be able to drink about 90% of your fuel tank and then it wont be able to drain anymore, then you must turn your fuel tap to the reserve position and it will be able to drink rest of your tank approx 10% that is left. So next time you fill up at a petrol station make sure your fuel tap is set to on, then when your bike starts to splutter out of fuel you can turn your fuel tap to reserve and get yourself to the petrol station to fill up, making sure you then turn your tap to on again. If you keep running out on the reserve it can cause debris in your tank to clog your carb up.

Ok, you have two "straws" on the petcock... one long that goes about an inch or so up into the tank, and a short one near the bottom of the tank.
When you petcock is turn to "on" it pulls from the longer of the two straws..once the fuel gets down below the top of the straw, you have to switch to reserve to get tha last inch or so of fuel.
What has apparently happened is, the longer "on" straw has come up out of the petcock, so now its running straight into the hole the straw used to be in, allowing it to drink every last drop of fuel from the tank when in the "on" position.
You will have to take the petcock off the bottom of the tank... you should see that there is only one straw with a screen still attached to it, if you shake the tank around you might be able to get the detached straw to come to the hole and get it with some tweezers and pull it out.
Once you have it, you need to glue it back into the petcock with some type of glue that gasoline wont break down... blue or black silicone will work, but you will have to allow it to set atleast over night to dry... might try some two part apoxy if you want to speed up the process.
It’s a Main/Reserve fuel valve. Its purpose is to select which of two tubes the fuel pump uses to get fuel from the fuel tank. One of the tubes is at the bottom of the tank; the other is about an inch higher. The normal “On” position gets fuel from the tube with the higher opening. When it runs dry you switch to “Reserve” which gets that last gallon or so from the bottom of the tank. That gives you enough range to make it to the next gas station for a fill-up. ,
