I have a 97 535 Yamaha virago, and it leaks oil from the bottom part of the transfer case. I replaced the gasket thinking it would be a easy fix and it is still leaking from the same spot, don't understand why or what I'm doing wrong. Can someone please give me some advise. Thanks, Mattt

Yes..... I should be able to check them with a volt meter. What do I need to do to make sure they are in the right order? Thanks for all your help!!!!

I have checked the battery with a voltage meter first while the bike is off and it reads 11.3, then while the bike is running and it reads 12.6 or somewhere around there, so it is getting a charge. I'm jest not sure what order to hook the wires coming out of the stator to the regulator in. Is there a way to tell if I have hooked them up in the right order?
    Thanks for your help!!!!

Not the starter the stator inside the transfer case, It has 3 wire that come out of it and connect to the wires coming out of the voltage regulator, which is normally connected with a wire harness but the wire harness bunt up as I said before .

Not the starter the stator behind the transfer case.

I know that it ether has to be the stator or the regulator, so I pulled the side covers off and started looking at the wiring and notice the harness that connects the two together was burnt to hell.... so bad that you cant tell what wire goes where. I need some good advise..... You have 3 wires coming out of the stator and the voltage regulator, which none of them are marked to know the difference between the 3 wires.... Will it matter or can I put them back in any order??? Thanks

Two things
1) you do not have the transfer case bolts tight enough meaning that you are not setting them to torque specs.
2) Most likely - You have a leak somewhere else that you are thinking is coming from the transfer case. I would remove all the excess oil from the motor by cleaning it with some type of degreaser and then checking to see exactly where the leak is originating from. Most of the time with motorcycles due to the fact that the engine is getting so much air when riding, your leak will tend to travel making you think that a leak is somewhere else rather then where it is really at.

Can you check the voltage on them with a volt meter?you have to put them back in a certain order

  • Anonymous Jun 27, 2011

If the bike is starting then you have things in the right order. If it is not starting then you have the wires crossed. The wire to the starter solenoid should only have voltage when you are trying to start the bke. The power to the positive terminal on the starter should have voltage always

Its the same thing basically, I am sorry that I got the name of the part wrong by accident. But there is not any exact order. If you have power to it, and ground then it is good..

How do i fix gear box gear oil leak ongs suzukugl drive shaft oil is working up through the starter and bottom of engine kind lie around gear sshifter

On the older bikes like Yamaha and Suzuki's, the starter had an O-Ring gasket on it's face. Your gasket may be bad, broken or missing and causing oil to get through. If you're leaking through your shifter pawl, then you're going to have to remove the case on the left side of the motor and replace the seal.

The engine oil is leaking from the frame thru the air filter of my yamaha virago model xv250(L)

Hello,

I have seen this problem on quite a few bikes, but not on yours.

Several things can cause this issue; dirty air filters, bad hoses, overfilled crankcase, rocker box gaskets, and other engine gaskets.

Maybe this info will give you a place to start.

Oil leaks out of 2000 Yamaha TT-R 125. How should I fix it? How many oil problems do they have on this bike. I think that the oil leak is coming from the bottom. Do you think it is a seal or a gasket.

hi ,
By the sound of things it would be a seal or gasket .
There are additives that you can buy and add it to your oil which can seal the leak but generally the best thing to do is to pull the lower case apart and replace the faulty gasket

You can check for intake leaks with carb cleaner. Spray a little near suspected areas and try to account for spray going in the carbs. A change in RPM is an indication of a leak.

Transfer case leak

You mean between the case halves? It is just silicon, no gasket. These are good for the pump wearing a hole in the rear housing and leaking oil. The cure for it is a new rear housing and a piece called a case saver that keeps the pump from doing it again. Taking the transfer case apart to fix it is easy, I can tell you how to do it.

Leaking transfer case..

First of all yes it will damage the transfer case with no oil in it or even low oil. if it is just a seal then it is easy to replace, but if it means splitting the transfer case this is not a job for the diy, unless you have experience with transmissions or transfer cases. It should not be too expensive to have the work done by a profesional. Which also give you a warranty.
