I have a 1997 Vulcan classic. I have noticed a drop of smells like grease coming from front of drive shaft boot. what could this be and how hard and costly of a fix is this? It has about 15000 miles on it. Thanks for your help.

grease all of the parts if they need it. it depends on the kind of driving the bike has been through. look for grease fittings too.

Possible CV Joint boot failure, causing the bearing grease to escape!! If you do not have this repaired, your CV shafts (which transfers power to the wheels)will fail. This may cause an accident!! Inspect he black rubber boots behind the front wheel, they have a shaft running out of the boot. If the boot is cracked, replace both sides!!

If you mean the front drive chain sprocket, you certainly can, it is one of the most popular Vulcan 800 mods. Check this site for some good advice:

I just purchased a 1997 vulcan 1500 classic.Every time i shift into 2nd i miss it and it goes into nuetral is there a problem or is it just me.

if your 2nd cam shaft is damage you can never go to 2nd shift and it will go to neutral or you can hit it twise to go to 3rd shift, but if you change to 2nd shift and it go neutral then you try again and it go without any hard snappimg sound then its just provably you, i hope your cam shaft is not damage, you'll spend a lot for it

Motorcycle 1998 Kawasaki 1500 Vulcan

to my knowledge there are no grease points on any shaft drive bike, all the universal joints are sealed and should oulast the bike, the only grease i ever put into a final drive assemly is the drive hub which you only do when the rear wheel comes out to replace a tyre, just note..make sure it gets done because if the drive hub wears due to lack of grease in most cases you will have to replace the whole drive assembly because the drive hub is part of the final drive and they are VERY EXPENSIVE..hope this helps

Leak & vibration

Yes the 'O' ring or the seal has gone it has to be replaced, and about the vibrations, is it coming from around the rear side at the shaft or at the cross joint?
Probabely the cross-joint has a play, greasing it would sometimes help if the play is not big.
