An electrical part is worn causing ovrheatn. Ignition parts need to b tests..coil. Plugcables ignition module or components on alternator. Get a clymer or haynesmanual

More info is needed about which model intruder you have, 800,1400 etc... Also what do you mean by airflow adjustment. Typically the airflow is fixed and there are ways to adjust fuel flow only.
if you can see the pads check if they look thicker then a dime, if they get down to that thin then replace them also look for pitting and wear on the rotor when riding lightly engage the brakes , if it feels like it is pulsing then the rotor may be warped
the mixture screw is underside of carb,if its between cylinder and front side of carb its fuel/air,to lean turn screw clockwise,if its between backside of carb and air box/filter,its air/fuel,turn screw counter clockwise to lean,adjust with 1/8 turn at a time.
