I just took my 2000 intruder 1500 vl out of storage and started it up and it sounded good so I changed the oil and filter which the bike calls for and as I was driving it I noticed a noise that sounded like a rocker or lifter noise but still had plenty of power so i stopped to look at the motor and I noticed oil leaking down the head.what would cause this to happen I take very good care of my bike. I have owned this bike for about 5 years or so and never had any problems like this. could you please help me with this problem. Thank you.

gday there kenneth this sounds like the seller before was trying to stop the engine from smoking ,this is a old trick you do not put much oil in to the motor so the compression when it pushes past the worn rings pressurerises the engine cases and pushes oil out of the breather hole into the airbox this is why when you filled it and put the hose back to the air filter it was smoking .best thing to do is check your spark plugs and see if there oiled up if they are see if you have a mate with a engine compression gauge and check the compression this will more than likely be it .if not take it too your dealer and let him do the test for you .hope this helps cheers
check you starter sol it is undre driver side fuel tank cover jump it across the two red and black wire with key on and see if it turn over if it start you will need to buy another one cost about 75.00
Get a filter wrench at walmart (plastic) or Auto zone type place, unscrew drain plug and after all is drained then take off filter. It works bette if you warm up the bike first so the oil is warm and flows better. The oil fill and dip stick is behind the rear chrome cover on the right side. Two allen screws to remove the cover. Check for no leaks by running her after you fill up with oil.
Take the two hex screws out of right side rear cover and remove the chrome cover. The clear lens is the oil level check. The oil filler is to the left of the clear lens oil check.
The oil filter is under the battery, and the oil drain plug is toward the back underside of the engine.
Warm engine and stand upright on centerstand to drain oil, let drain for 15 minutes.
You need to buy a volt meter and set it on 10, or 20 v-. Start the bike and see what it says. A good charging system will show 13-14+ volts. If the meter says 11-12 volts or does not change, you have a bad stator, or rect/reg. Take to a shop to have it further tested. Chaz Moto DC
the fuse panel is under the speed sensor cover. it is the chrome cover on right side of bike. the same cover you have to remove to put oil in it. it is the one that does not have the oil sight glass in it. only 2 allen bolts hold it on.
