I have a 95 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 88 SE and I put new valves in as well as rings. I came upon an issue and wanted to ask about it. When lining up the timing mark on the alternator/crank pulley, I know that it has at "TF" to align with the main mark on the generator housing but does that only apply to the front head and aligning the cam gear mark? I ask as another mark is labeled as an "R". Does that mark have to be utilized to properly align the rear head cam gear?

I'm pretty sure it does. I own a 1995 Vulcan and I bought a 2003 tank and looked at the mounting brackets and fuel connections all looked to be the same - but don't put this in stone. I haven't been able to put it on yet because it's still out being painted. There should be no difference in the fuel tank mounts from 1996-1005, but as always, check with a professional if this information is critical.

the speedo cable may be broken i had the same problem and tested the cable and thought it was fine but checked later again and the cable was split inside the cable so may want to check tht again

The 2005 manual (4th from the bottom), is 11MB. You can go with the '05 manual as the service proceedure is the same as the 1998. The 2002 manual is 80 MB (scanned differently).
