3000 to 5000 miles is the range. 3000 miles city driving or up to 5000 miles touring miles. Some people change yearly or at 2000 miles. That is probably excessive and wasteful (of money and oil). Typically if you drive your motorcycle a lot, you will sense when it is running louder and with more vibration. That is how the motorcycle tells you that it wants an oil change.
You can use any oil that is JASO MA certified motorcycle oil. 10w-40 for cold climate. 20w-50 for warm climate/touring. Car oils use different additives and may cause scoring in certain types of cam bearings. Do not use any oil that says " Energy Conserving " on the label . It will shorten the life of your wet clutch and transmission gears. If you choose Synthetic oils, they will help your bike run cooler and shift easier. Shell Rotella T and Rotella T Synthetic 15w-40 are inexpensive JASO MA oils. You will need 4 quarts of oil, an aluminum drain plug washer, and a filter. Pour in 3.3 quarts , run the motor, and check the oil level . Top up as needed.

I got my oil changed on my vstar 1100 about a week ago. Rode it locally but did not put on many miles. Over the weekend I went on a long ride with a few friends. At one point we were riding at between...

The o-ring on the filter housing could be the problem, or maybe it was not tightened properly. You will need to clean all the residual oil off, position you bike in the upright position and determine the leak source. Hopefully it's not a case cover. Good luck, i hope this helps.

Have a 2006 xvs1100 Vstars Classic & just had a service & now have a tapping in it at idle.

Most bikes after so many miles(dont know what that number is for your particular bike)Need a valve adjustment.See how many miles are on bike and find out how many miles you need before you do valve adjustment.the tapping is usally more pronounced when bike idles because of low oil pressure,as long as noise goes away when you rev motor up its just a ajustment.if this noise gets worse then it could be an oil pressure problem.

Where does the oil come out of a 2004 Yamaha 1100 VStar Classic

Oil drain plug is located near the bottom of the engine, left side toward the front. The oil filter element is located on the right side of the engine under the cover toward the front. Changing the oil filter usually requires removal of the front exhaust pipe. There is an aftermarket filter relocation kit that replaces the filter element with a spin on filter that mounts on the front of the bike.

Change oil in 2004 Yamaha V Star 1100 Classic, procedure?

i think the oil filter is at the front behind a round finned cover, if you find the drain plug it should be right above it, it shoud tell you how much oil it takes right next to the filler
