Actually when the key is turned on all the "dash" lights come on neutral, oil, temp and what ever else as soon as the bike starts the lights will go out. If the lights come on while the engine is running then you have a problem or it's in neutral "green".

For the bike not starting a few things, first off the battery even though you say it's new may have been sitting on the shelf for a while and they do loose power so it may need charging. The newer bikes the headlight light comes on when the key is turned on which robs the starting system of power to turn the starter, the batteries need to be good on these bikes or it's just not going to work. If the headlight comes on and looks yellow or amber then there isn't enough power in the battery. If it's a nice bright white light then there is power and the starter may need to be serviced.

If the bike has been sitting over the winter I'd guess the battery has just lost power and requires charging.

Cheers be safe and have fun with your motorcycle

When I turn key on I have head light but no instrument lights and it won't turnover

I would suggest you check the wiring loom around the headstock as you were able to cause symptoms when moving the handlebars. You may have a broken wire inside the loom so you will have to open it to inspect it.

Where is the neutral safety switch on a 1998 goldwing

my neutral switch is a hit and miss. I'm just curious if it could be the battery. I let the bike sit tonight for a couple hours as I took parts off and turned on the battery the green light came on and then faded away. So I don't have a battery tester so I put it on charge and the lights is nice and bright so I turned the bike off put everything back and see if it will start so I can get to work. why would this happen sometimes and not others. Battery is 1.5 years old Decka battery. I heard replacing the switch is a big job and not a guaranty. thanks for the help

Bike starts and runs fine but after a 20 min run and i go to put the bike into neutral the green light does not come on but bike still runs.then when u turn the bike off and back on again the green light...

There is an electrical switch that senses when the transmission is in neutral. The switch may be defective causing this problem. Check the electrical connections to this switch. If they seem to be secure, replacement of the switch may be warranted.

the starter solinoid is not working if it has an electric start, try kick starting it, if it won't start check the points or the ingiter coil.

Neutral light won't turn on and bike won't start

The click u hear means your neutral isn't the problem, it means your new battery is trying to start the engine, however the power isn't making it to the starter. check the battery cables for good connection in the ends of the wires and at the start relay (the positive wire from the battery goes to the start relay that may need replacing) also from the start relay that you hear clicking down to the starter.make sure cable and nuts that hold them are clean in good shape. to get the neutral lite to come on the side stand doesn't do it, the shift lever does. you can be sure you are in neutral when the bike can roll without the clutch being pulled. If the bike is in neutral and the lite doesn't come on then replacing the bulb or sensor might be necessary.

Will not start or go into nurtal

Anyway'Lets see turn the ignition key on so you have dash lights etc, Jog the bike back and forth gently while trying to shift the gears, what you are looking for is the green neutral light to come on on the dash.If this does not work..'. turn the ignition off..'. jog the bike GENTLY WITH THE CLUTCH IN AND WHILE THE BIKE IS STILL MOVING A VERY small amount release the clutch.'turn the ignition back on.'Now pull the clutch in and again attempt to shift the gears and activate the green neutral light. If you cant shift down, shift up, if the green lite blinks youve shifted thru neutral go back the other way. When you get a green light pull the clutch in and start the bike. Other Problems.'. You may have an airlock in the clutch line Take it to dealer and have it bled or get a knowledgable person to help you bleed the line. Is your battery OK. Is your kill switch activated.
