Why do you say its over heating .Runs for 3 minutes the oil is OK .
Do you understand how the choke works .
bacsicly you prime the mechine in cold condutions 3-4 pumps choke to max throttle at 3 /1/4 .
Start backing off the choke after 3-to4 mins .
The choke shuts the fresh flow down to the engine in cold condutions ware it needs more fuel then air to run.
When the engine starts to get hot it can't run with out fresh air to mix with the gas it won't run anymore because there is to much gas and not enough air
Its simple fool prof will work everytime if you adjust it right
It's possible that your choke linkage may be the problem. Or the choke is partically on when it's running. A choke is required when it's cold but not required when it's hot. Check the intake of the carburetor to see if the choke butter fly opens all the way when you shut the choke down. Good luck.
possibility 1) It sounds like it is sucking air with the gasoline. 2) don't rush the choke, leave it running on high with 1/2 choke. When you go to move the choke to off, move it very very slowly while the governor can catch up and raise the revs. Or slow the revs down before turning the choke off.
The running on choke is caused by a fuel restriction. Check the fuel flow from the tank to the carburetor.Change the fuel filter if it has one. If its good, then the restriction is in the carburetor. The generator is shutting down due to the low rpm coming from the engine. A carburetor rebuild may need to be done.
Start with the simple inexpesive things first, replace the fuel filter in the tank, check the fuel hoses up to the carb for cracks or leakage, replace if required.
