My 2005 harley fat boy fell over in the garage. The kick stand must of slipped out.It fell on the left side of bike opposite the side with oil fill tank. There was a large amount of fluid that leaked out.It stinks really bad like its burn't.Is that transmission fluid or oil. It looked to clean for oil. This is my first bike and don't know what to check first. And how do I refill the fluid tanks with a cold motor? All the directions say to have a warm motor.

Jason would you know how much oil and transmision fluid these bikes hold?I didn't get a owners manual with it.Spent all my money on the bike. Will have to try and service it myself.I plan on putting a new oil filter on as well.Is there a transmission filter to?

Hi,

This will be transmission/gearbox fluid if it smells like you said it does. Yes you need to warm it up and then check the gearbox fluid level, this can be refilled through the filler bolt ehich is on the left hand side of the gearbox at thetop middle. Its a large head bolt.

Let ,me know if you need more help.

Thanks

Jason

If you look ast the top right hand side of the gearbox you will see the filler dipstick. remove this to check the level. To fill from empty takes 590 - 710 mls. But it is easier just to check with the dipstick each time while you are filling it. No there is no filter for the gearcase.

2005 fat boy oil change

Stand the bike upright. Remove the dipstick from the oil tank. Remove the drain plug on the bottom right side of the frame. While the oil is draining, replace the oring on the drain plug. Remove and replace the oil filter, after filling the new filter half full of oil. Replace the drain plug. Put 3 quarts of oil in the oil tank. Replace the dipstick. Start the bike and check for leaks. No leaks, you're done! I use HD Syn 3 synthetic oil in my '04 Fatboy, but you can also use a conventional 20w50, as long as it's made for use in and air cooled motorcycle. Don't use car oil!

How much oil does the primary case hold on a 2000 harley fatboy 88 twin cam

It should hold between 36 and 44 ounces. Stand the bike as straight up as you can and still be safe. Remove the derby cover and drain the old oil. Refill the primary with oil until the oil level is right at the bottom of the outer clutch drum. If you fill it too high, your clutch will drag and you' will not be able to find neutral with the engine running.

Where is the oil plug to drain the oil on a 2005 Fat Boy Harley Davidson

The oil drain hose comes of the lower back side of the oil tank on the right side of the bike. It runs down behind the transmission and comes out just in front of the swingarm down low on the frame. It either dead ends there with a plug in the end or it connects to a crossmember of the frame that runs underneath the transmission. If it connects to this crossmember, the drain plug is on the bottom side of the crossmember directly opposite the hose.

Good luck

What is the difference between a 2005 efi gas tank and a carburetor model

I believe all 2005 Fat Boys were EFI and no production models w/carb. Generally, the difference between an EFI tank and carb tank is that the EFI has a fuel return port. If you look at the left side bottom you will see what appears to be two fuel lines. One is supply and the other is return from the fuel pump. I believe 1999 was last year of carbed Fat Boys. Left side tank has only one fuel supply port.

How much oil does a 1993 harley softail transmission take

About a quart. Stand the bike straight up and remove the derby cover. Fill to the bottom of the spring in the clutch assembly. Do not overfill or you'll be unable to find neutral with the engine running.

Good Luck

Finished about a 300 mile ride was pulling into the garage and noticed that gear oil was pouring out the left side of the bike

Grretings!

Sounds like your gear box is wounded... actually, its possible excessive gear box oil is comming out the vent. Check the gearbox oil level before your next ride and check for leaks.

Cheers, Jay
