I have just refurbished a 1976 Bmw R600/6 which has been stored for over 20 years. Once i got it running i found i could only select 3 gears i believe the missing ones are 1st and 5th. Is this a common problem with these machines and what should i do to remedy it? yours Shane Hill

Hey shane my recommendation is to replace the gears 1st and 5th and not to my knowledge is that a common problem to break gears like that you have to shift hard with out clutch ( power shifting )

good luck.

What do the case pins do on a BMW r75/6 and why would they need to be replaced?

I'd like a little more information but here goes. "Case pins" if you have dismantled the engine you will find these "pins" in strategic points in the casings. They are used to properly align the component parts during reassembly. They can be found in cylinder heads cylinder to block block halves or pretty well anywhere that a precision fit is necessary. This is a non wear non stress part after assembly I can't think of any reason they would need replacing unless damages or lost during dismantle. I rode a BMW R 75-5 across Canada once, great motorcycle but the seat was like sitting on an oak plank. Nice ride hope I helped

Poor gear selection. Selecting neutral between 2nd and 3rd.Occasionally unable to select 1st and 2nd gear. This bike has asidecar, I have owned it for one week and it has been standing for 1year. I suspect...

i agree, sounds like the clutch is dragging, fairly common when not been used for some time..adjustment / lubrication should do the trick..good luck..

I have a 1976 75 hp 2 stroke evinrude that is overheating. Just got it running after sitting for two years.

In the bottom of the engine is a rubber impeller/water pump. It is in the housing above the prop, not hard to change. Basic tools a six pack and about an hour. The part will cost you about $20, and you can order it from NAPA parts store. They will be about 50% less than a boat shop. Good Luck
