Chances are strong the bike has a bent shift fork. This is a major repair requiring a complete engine tear down. As far as the leak goes, there is a shift shaft seal, drive-shaft ( sprocket shaft ) seal, Kick shaft seal. shift drum switch seal, crank shaft seals and clutch shaft seal. Also, there is the right outer case cover gasket, oil filler "O" ring seal, and the center case mating surface seal. The center case seal is actually a semi-liquid gasket compound applied to the mating surfaces prior to the center case re-assembly. The shift fork repair is not recommended for the unexperienced home mechanic. Below are the main parts if a Suzuki shift mechanism and a diagram of how the shift forks move left and right to change gears. Please rate my answer. Thanks! I had the same problem. The bike sat for a long time and when running again it would only shift when the bike was on the stand. When is was on the ground it would only shift into first, could not put it back into neutral. I drained the oil and bought some "Rislone" an engine treatment at Canadian Tire and let it sit for about three or four days. The next time I tried the bike it was shifting perfectly. Just gunked up from siting for so long. Before you go spending a huge chunk of money try this stuff. It worked great for me.

The owner didn't say the that the bike had been sitting. Glad your bike is operating well now. You bring up a good point, extremely dirty oil can create problems.

Have a 1983 Suzuki GS550. When downshifting, the bike stays in the downshifted gear, however shifter stays in "first" rather then popping up back into "neutral". Have to pick up by foot in order to do

The transmission must be shifted up from first to neutral. Sometimes neutral must be "hunted for". If you are operating the shift properly then there is a small spring under the cover where the lever is mounted that may be broken or out of place. Drain the oil before removing the cover.

There are two possible causes. 1> one of the floats are sticking. Tap (gently) on the carb bodies to see if it stops. 2> The fuel petcock, which is vacuum operated when the engine runs, has gone bad. this will cause fuel to continue to flow when the engine is off.

I have a suzuki gs 1100 L the brake calper is rubing one side agenst the rotor outside and I dont know why

Do you have floating calipers, or a floating rotor? Either way, check to make sure that the self-centering part of your brake system is actually centering, and isn't sticking or overly worn.
