When I let off the gas it will start to back fire and then when i get back on the gas it will back fire through the carb. I have cleaned the two air jets in the air horn I recon you call it (When you take the dummy cover off the two little holes you see in the carb) and the thig will run great for about 5 miles then it starts it up again,it will run with the choke about a 1/4 of the way out and not back fire as bad. It has after market pipes but it just started this

lots of reasons check spark again and fuel to what filter carb? engine problems basically are gas and spark so tells me its gas pull plug squirt some gas 2 stroke make shure its oil/gas 4 stroke gas only in cylinder use a eyedropper or a clear gas line of fuel to put fuel in cylinder put plug back in fire up if starts problem in carb if no start may have jumped timing check air filter may even have a mouse nest in it most people don't drain gas out of carbs for winter drop carb clean bowl with pure white vinegar clean all jets pilot / main reasemble
Did you clean the fuel jet in the carb? If not that could be the trouble.
Pull the spark plug and put a spoon full of clean gas in the plug hole and put your plug back in and hook up the plug wire and try to start. If it fires up and stalls right after then you know you have a fuel problem. Is your primer bulb working? Sometimes I prime my one engine twenty times before it will run. Worth a try. Make sure you are using fresh gas as well.
Previous owner had way overfilled crankcase oil. Oil had gotten into carb and clogged air filter. Drained oil to correct level. Ran engine but kept cutting off-see above. Took off carb cover cleaned housing and ran without air filter-ran fine. Unsuccessfully tried to clean air filter with gas-did not work. Apparently, the engine could run just long enough to exhaust the air in the old filter and cut off which is why it would start back up after a few seconds. Bought new air filter-whole thing-about $15 at Carquest. Put in some carb cleaner and installed the new filter and it runs perfectly.
That is usually a timing problem but it could be the carburetor in need of a rebuild. If I remember correct GM was using Rochester Carbs on that model and they are notorious for this problem.
try a new spark plug. if u fowl out a plug some time they will not fire under compression.2 strokes need. fuel, fire and air, very simple engines.it is possible crank seal are bad .that doesn't allow the engine to create vacuum in the crank case.thus fuel and air will not make it to combustion chamber.
Could be a carb problem. Clean and sync the carbs. ALWAYS have a fire extinguisher at hand when working on carburetors.
Drain the carburetors. There should be a screw on the lower side of each carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Is there any water or trash in the bowl? Drain a cup of gas from the tank. Is there any water or trash in the cup? Dump it, clean it and re-mount it, (not all bikes have a water trap bowl). Turn the gas back on and wait a minute for the carbs to fill with gas. If the bike doesn't start and run properly then shut off the gas and remove the carburetors from the engine.
FOR EACH carb > Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the idle screw and the air screw on the outside throat of the carb and spray into the screw holes as well. < < READ CLOSELY > > Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two adjusters down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each adjuster one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the carb back together and install the carb. Sync the carbs such that the slides on both carbs move at the same exact instant when the throttle is slowly turned from idle speed. Clean or replace the air filter and install an in-line fuel filter. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine. This process should get you back on the road. Please rate this solution.
