It is not an automatic trans and the reason it drops back into second is that the 3rd gear driving dogs on the gear itself are bad or going bad. It gets like that when the gear shifts are missed to many times on the bike especially under power. The engine will have to be pulled and the engine disassembled to repair it. If the bike is allowed to continually drop back into gear like that, it could case other problems that are way more costly (ie; like break the cases, damaged other gears, damage the shift drum and other shift forks). Ride it easy(don't let it drop out of gear or between gears like it does) or take it down and get it fixed

Ascertain that the bike least has an automatic gearing system. For example, automactic gears least requires clutch to propel bike. Once the bike is at slow motion captures an improvided speed with acceleration.

What is causing a couple of second judder when accelerating away after changing from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th gear ?

it may be from failing engine mounts allowing the engine to misalign the drive shaft under acceleration and allowing problems in the cv joints or "U" joint

I have a 03 yamaha vstar 1100 classic and here latley when accelerating hard in second gear the bike seems like the transmission is skipping (not slipping)... any ideas as to what in the tranny is causing...

Sounds like a bent shift fork. While accelerating you can feel the power cutting in and out quickly. The problem will get worse if you keep pushing 2nd gear till it slips. You can learn where (at what RPM) it wants to jump out and start shifting before it jumps out. The long term fix is opening the transmission and fixing the bent shift fork.

your honda has a fuzzy logic/computer operated gearbox.(auto)the first 1/3 of the accelerator pedal is for economy/smooth changes.the second 1/3 is for "normal"? driving and the last third( is for idiots like me,power crazy) is for quick passing.i am assuming you have not had this explianed to you by the salesperson, yeah right, like they would....all this is controlled by the onboard computer....if it had a fault it would show ..

Honda V1100 Jumps out of gear on full throttle acceleration

More likely it is a slightly bent shift fork not fully engaging into second. The clutch and bearings are not suspect. Remove your foot from the shift lever then go full throttle in 2nd. Those new riding boots may be doing the magic unconsciously. Adjust the shift lever height if that is the problem.

2003 honda civic jumps out of 3rd gear when I take my foot off of the gas pedal

it sounds like there is a pin after breaking on the gear selector in your gearbox you will have to take out the gearbox and replace the pin , if your after doing to much driving on it you might have to replace the 3rd gear selector , this is only a guess because i had a 03 toyota hiace with the same problem and thats what was wrong
