Just need to verify the location of the main circuit breaker on my 1997 Harley Road King

Hi, William and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery should have 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage the battery is faulty and must be replaced, AGM batteries fail in this scenario more so than lead-acid batteries.
2. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
3. Faulty main circuit breaker and or connections.
4. Faulty ignition coil and or connections.
5. Faulty spark plug, oil or gas fouled, wrong heat range or service type, wrong gap, loose in the cylinder head, broken electrode or insulator.
6. Faulty spark plug cables, leaking or broken, internal damage check for spark leakage in the dark.
7. Faulty ignition module, switch, CKP, MAP, CMP, sensor and or any connector in the ignition circuit could have corroded, loose, or broken pins/sockets
8. Burnt exhaust valve or air leak in the exhaust system.
9. Improper valve clearance (too tight).
10. Check for generated diagnostic codes.

Touring engine oil drain plug is on the left hand side front of the oil pan facing the front.

Circuit breakers are under the seat. There are several. Charging system failure and subsequent battery failure can cause complete failure, also. Inadvertantly hitting the kill switch?

Do you have a security system on this bike? If so, has the bike been hit or laid down? If not---

Check fuses and circuit breakers to ensure they are good.

I'm not sure when Harley changed to fuses but I think your RK has circuit breakers. These sense an overload and trip the breaker. After a short time, the breaker resets. They are usually under the seat. they look like small metal boxes that measure about 1/2" X 1/2" X 1 1/4". They have a copper screw and a steel screw. The copper screw is the battery end of the breaker.

I'm telling ya, since harley went to all this computerized stuff on the bikes, they're getting just like our cars got. It's getting to where you can 't work on them yourself anymore.

The ignition circuit has it's own fuse now. Since Harley went to fuses instead of circuit breakers, the slightest thing and you're down for the count. With circuit breakers, you could short something and a few seconds later, you were ready to go again. These days, you've got to find the fuses and check all of them. I don't know where your fuse box is located on the bike. The header says you have a 2000 Road King. If that's right, I think the fuse box is under the seat or the right side frame panel. That's what I'd check first.

Of course, you know that you've got a compression sensor on your engine. If you take the plugs out of the heads and put them in the wires, you won't get a spark. Take the wires off the spark plugs but leave the plugs in the heads. Put another set of plugs in the wires to check for spark.

Sounds like your main power relay is going out> This is a circuit breaker that can reset after a rest. If you have a service manual it will tell where you will find it and how to change it. This breaker will go bad and produces the symptoms you describe
