partway down the cable under a rubber sleeve there is an adjuster assembly. Try loosening this a little to gain some length on the cable, then re-tighten it when you have it connected. the left side also has one you can adjust you throttle response using these. Be sure you replace the rubber sleeves.
You need to take the entire throttle control assembly off the handlebars and disconnect the cables from the carburetor. Check each cable for free movement. If you have a frayed cable, you will never get it to work correctly so check the cables. Now when you go to put the assembly back together make sure you put some thin grease on the handlebar and inside the throttle sleeve before you slide it up on the handlebar. Put white lithium grease in the area where the cables connect to the throttle sleeve the bolt the two halves of the switch housing together. Slide the switch and throttle assembly all the way up on the handlebars and then back it off about an 1/8" or so. This insures that the handlebar is not rubbing on the inside of the end of the throttle grip.
yeah the cable needs to be taken lose at the throttle lever on the engine and then remove the grip and the cable will have to be reapplied to the new grip in its groove and then reattach it at the engine
It should be one screw on top and one on the bottom, once you have these, the top should come off. this should expose the throttle cable, disconnect the cable which should let the bottom drop down and you can now slide the grip off of the bars and install your new one. It may be necessary to move the front brakelever/ master cylinder to allow access, for the couple more screws move it out of the way to make life easier..
Don't forget to put a small wedge in the front brake lever, to prevent damaging the brake switch on reinstall.
check any service manual, they are all about the same system. I think I know what you are saying though.Take the switch housing off the right side, twist the throttle one way then the other to dis connect cables( there is 2). Old grip should slip right off. Is ther manual cruise on it? If so, that will need to be dis assembled as well (in the switch housing) It is not easy to do if you have big mitts.
