Remove the silencer and clean up the down pipe and silencer ends. Use a liberal amount of exhaust repair paste and push the silencer back on. Refit the clamp that holds the pipes together and replace any perished rubberised band that may be used. Run the motor on idle for about 10 mins to harden the paste and the leave overnight. Recheck the clamp for tightness and hopefully all should be well with the world, the sun will be shining and you can go for a ride.

Exhaust pipe dimensions

Some dimensions are included in a good replacement exhaust catalogue but the majority of dimensions seem to be some sort of secret.

Most catalogues also list straight pipes, ready-made bends, flexible sections, CATS, universal silencers, brackets and clamps for those who need to repair an exhaust or even produce a custom exhaust.

2003 Saturn vue v6- excessive water, moisture dripping out of tailpipe- same vehicle that's making the roaring noise

Water does drip out of the tailpipe as a matter of course. That's perfectly normal.

If you have a 'roaring' noise from the silencer/muffler area it's probably because there's a hole in it due to age/corrosion and the exhaust gases are leaking straight to atmosphere without being silenced by the muffler.

Water WILL drip from a holed silencer or pipe. This is normal. The water isn't your problem - you have a hole or split in the muffler or pipe

Is there any way to remove the carbon deposited in the silencer?

Hello, carbon is a hard deposit so there is really no safe chemical that will clean it. A lot of riders will use a torch, heat the pipe red hot and then chip it out. ---Of course if you have some nice pipes, nickle or chrome, it will discolor them. An ultrasonic parts cleaner will work, but not everbody has one of those...Here's a trick the old timers use to do back on the early model enduros.

Remove the pipe from the bike, remove the silencer/spark-arrestor. Now use a rubber plug or cork in the silencer end of the pipe & cap it off.

Now pour about a half of a can or bottle of drain cleaner into the head pipe, next fill the pipe with HOT water and step back. The pipe will get very hot and you will hear and see bubbling. Let it set for about a 1/2 hour then pour it out and remove the cork and rinse the pipe in cold water.

If your pipe is really carboned up you may need to do the above procedure a couple of times.

Please be very cautious since drain cleaners can be dangerous, obey all precautions listed on the bottle... wear gloves & goggles....Not many people know about this trick, it works well though.
I hope this helps, & good luck with your bike.

Wet carpet

Your drain tube for the air conditioning is plugged up, and instead of draining on the ground, it's leaking on the carpet. You need to go under the car and locate the tube (it's on the passenger side, in front of and below where the front passengers feet would be. You will need a long thin wire to clean out the blockage.

Balance box

when I noticed that where the silencer goes into the balance box the weld had gone and it was blowing. I only have a short trip this weekend so it can wait untill Monday but I am unsure what to fit. If I fit an H pipe, will it need the EFI resetting ? How much increase in noise will it generate ? If it means playing with the EFI or a lot more noise I will refit a new standard box. ,I swapped my old balance box for a Mistral H pipe- gives a noticeable boost to the mid-range, and if you keep the standard silencers and airbox won't create too much extra noise. Also looks much sleeker and makes gearbox oil changes easier. I have a spare standard balance box in the garage if you want a one,,,
