Use a DYNAJET kit & go with the directions. Or check with the Hypercharger manufacture for correct jetting. But you will still need different needles & main jets for those pipes.
check the fuel filters, it sounds to me as though there is a partial blockage which allows just enough to sustain tickover and starves the bike upon rev up. this is the first step to check and the most likely. good luck.
Hi That's a fuelling problem Sounds like she has been laid up for a while - If more than 5 or6 months then you'll have to drain & replace the fuel from both the tank & carbs If over a year then you may need to strip the carbs
It could just be sticky floats - try adding a carb cleaner to your fuel
We have changed a few bikes from standard pipes to drag pipes. Their is a few considerations here, sea level or at what altitude, how much back pressure. so my suggestion rather take it before fitting the pipes to someone with a dyno, run and record the test, then have the pipes fitted, and let the same shop to the test again on there dyno, they will then know what to do with the jetting, because you should achieve better results with your new pipes.
If you follow the pipes they will tell you by themselves they're really easy you have four alan bolts at the blocks 2 and 2 then be careful to dislodge the pipes from the balancer then there are a couple of bolts behind the wide parts.
It does sound like a fuel filter or supply problem. Anyone can change a filter, just use common sense, like don't smoke while doing it,lol. I'd check the ignition points if it has them, might be electronic.
the best battery replacement for your bike would be a low-maintenance sealed battery. Sealed types last longer but they are expensive. XVS650 is a fit but make sure you specify if its either a custom or a classic, they get confused by these.
I"d recommend the linbar by lindby customs for the engine guard. THey're practical.
Hi .... This is a common occurence, esp'ly with aftermarket pipes, where they are made from a single 'skin'. You can buy a special cream/polish solely to remove the discolouring. Make sure both spark plugs are a light tan colour which shows the mixture is OK. An old british bike trick was to wrap thick copper wire along the down pipe to disapate the heat.
