How to remove seat to access the battery and carb. the throttle will not turn .is the bell/slide stuck? I just got this bike,7200 miles I think it has been in storage 2 to 3 years... Are there any common problems with this model that i should be aware of ? Thanks ...

Hi dogothedeser,

You did not state what model Suzuki you have. Some batteries are on the underneath of the bike; seats are usually bolted on and can be removed by removing the side covers and then removing the bolts holding the seat on. The fuel tank usually has to come off too. This is usually held on by a single bolt under the seat.

Hello all, I was just wondering how to fix an apparent open throttle on a 1982 Honda cb750 Nighthawk 750?

I suspect that the throttle cable is out of the end setting from removing and replacing the carbs or a return spring for the cable has broken off and not pulling the throttle back to idle position

How do you lower the idle on a 2004 cr125?

There should be a screw in the carb body turning this in raises the tick over turning out lowers it normally. Check the throttle cable[s] adjuster is set correctly. Also check that the throttle action is free running if the cable is not well lubed this can prevent the carb slide from seating at the proper level inside the carb. Some bike have adjusters on the carb top make sure this is not keeping the slide from seating. If you get somewhere fairly quiet open the throttle about half way and let go you should hear a metallic clink as the slide seats on the stop.

Hey I have a 1974 Honda CB200 which runs with two carbs but i am having difficulty in tuning them right . fuel efficiency is poor . So i want to ask you if i can replace those two carbs with one carb like...

The power would not be changed. If the distance between the intake ports is the same, you should be able to do the swap. That air filter will need to be changed also. Before you spend money, how about spending a little bit of time instead? Remove the carbs then remove the float bowl at the bottom of one of the carbs. Only work on one carb at a time. Remove the air and the throttle screws. Now use spray carb cleaner to clean the inside of the carb. Spray into every fitting and drill hole you can find. Spray from both ends of a fitting or hole if possible. Put the float bowl back in place and then put the air and throttle screws back in. Turn them inward until they LIGHTLY seat. Noe turn each of them outward one and one half turns. Now clean the other carb the same way...
Mount the carbs back on the bike. First, synchronize the two carbs so that the slide in the center of both carbs begins to raise at the exact same moment when the throttle is twisted. The motor is turned off for this adjustment. Use a mirror to see the slides when the throttle is gently turned. Adjust the cable fitting on top of the carb that is latest to begin to lift, turn the fitting outward. Start the bike and then adjust the throttle screws equally to set the idle speed. It would be a good idea to balance the carbs also. I can tell you how in a reply. Answers that are too long get cut off by Fixya.

I started the bike and was at full throttle when running but throttle was not sticking maybe floats stuck,so i took carb off cleaned it and put it back on know bike won't start at all ,i have spark going...

Are you certain the throttle butterfly or slide (depending on what model bike you have) is seated...if the actual throttle in the carb throat is not closing, starting bike cold will be very difficult as you are feeding in too much air.

I cleaned the carbs and after putting them back on the bike idles at 7000-8000 rpms and wont go lower, it will rev higher and just go back to 7k-8k

Must be throttle sticking .
Check , Cable at carb end is in holder ,
Cable is not kinked,
Cable at handlebar end is properly in slide,
Pistons in carbs are free to slide
There are no obstructions in carbs.
Try, Disconnecting cables from carbs ( if your bike idles , its the cables)
Removing air intakes and looking down the carbs with a mirror and torch ( slides should be seating almost closed)

I have a yz125 and the throttle won't turn. I

Two things will freeze a throttle >> a rusted cable and a stuck slide. The usual problem is a stuck slide. Disconnect the air cleaner and unbolt the carb. Pull it to one side and immerse it and the cable end in a small coffee can filled half full of denatured alcohol. Let it soak for 15 minutes. Now set the can aside. File down the end of an old toothbrush and put the new chisel end into the inlet side of the carb and under the bottom edge of the slide. Tap the end of the brush with a plastic hammer to pry the slide upward and break the slide free. The carb is going to need a through cleaning so remove the float bowl, air and throttle screws and slide assembly and let the parts soak in the alcohol along with the carb body. An hour soaking should be good. Now clean with spray carb cleaner, concentrating on the screw adjuster holes and drill circuits in the body of the carb. After reassembly, LIGHTLY seat the air and throttle screws then open up one half turns outward.

Drain the gas tank and clean it out. remove the petcock and clean it also. Install an inline fuel filter. Please rate my answer. Thanks!

I have a 250 Kawasaki motor in a kart. I can not get it to start. It was running perfect then a week later I could not start it. Plenty of fuel in the tank and getting through to the carb's. Plugs are dry...

Compression release stuck open? Do the plugs show spark? Is the slide in the carb moving up and down when you turn the throttle? Soak the carbs in denatured alcohol for 30 minutes, then clean them with spray carb cleaner. Remove the air screw and throttle screw on the carbs and spray into the holes. Reassemble and LIGHTLY seat the screws. Now open each one up one and one half turns. This is the factory setting. Install an in-line fuel filter to keep trash out of the carbs. Is the exhaust clear? Is the air filter clean? Some bikes have an oil level sensor > is the oil level in the gearbox where it should be?

Idles at full throttle

Be sure the throttle cable is routed correctly and is not being stretched. When disconnected from the carb, does the inner throttle cable operate freely? Lubricate it. Also check that the cable connections at throttle and carb are seated properly. Does the slide move up and down freely? Remove the air filter and twist the throttle while looking inside the throat of the carb. LIGHTLY seat the throttle screw and the air screw then open each of them one and one half turns outward.

Scooter Open Throttle (?)

Assuming the bike is not fuel injected, you either have a stuck slide, a throttle cable out of place such that it is lifting the slide or a really bad manifold air leak. Tighten the clamps holding the carb to the cylinder and the bolts holding the manifold to the cylinder. That should eliminate any air leaks. Inspect the throttle cable, especially at the ends where it connects. Remove the air filter and look into the center of the carb. Does the slide in the throat of the carb open and close properly? Below is a generic carburetor. Your carb will be similar.

Bike won't stay running

Drain the carburetors. There should be a screw on the lower side of each CARB float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Is there any water or trash in the bowl? Drain a cup of gas from the tank. Is there any water or trash in the cup? Dump it, clean it and re-mount it, (not all bikes have a water trap bowl). Install new stock NGK spark plugs.

Remove the CARBS from the bike.
FOR EACH CARB > Remove the float bowl and clean the entire
CARB with a spray CARB cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the CARB. Remove the idle screw and the air screw on the outside throat of the CARB and spray into the screw holes as well.
< < READ CLOSELY > >
Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two screws down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each screw one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the
CARB back together, clean the air filter and install the CARB. Install an in-line fuel filter. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine.

BALANCE THE CARBS
Turn the throttle screw on the LEFT CARB one half turn inward. Now start the engine and get it warmed up. With the engine running, remove the RIGHT spark plug wire. Adjust the idle speed on the left CARB to the point where the engine just can't quite stay running and dies. Now put the loose spark plug wire back into place.

Now turn the throttle screw on the RIGHT CARB one half turn inward. Restart and rev the engine. Next, remove the LEFT spark plug wire. Adjust the idle speed on the right CARB to the point where the engine just can't quite stay running and dies. Now put the loose spark plug wire back into place.

SYNCHRONIZE THE CARBS
Remove the air filter and rubber fittings to allow you to see into the throat of both CARBS. You may need a mirror to see inside. You need to be able to see the slides go up and down when you twist the throttle. Now turn the fitting where the cable goes into each CARB such that there is just a bit of slack in the cable, 1/16" is plenty. Lock ONE of the cable adjusters down tight. All further adjustments will be made on the other CARB.

With the motor turned off twist the throttle very slowly while looking at the slides. Both slides need to begin lifting at the exact same moment. If the slides don't raise at the exact same time then slowly twist the throttle until the locked adjuster slide just barely starts to move. Hold the throttle still and turn the adjuster on the other CARB so that the slide on that CARB just barely starts to move also. Now recheck the slide movement timing. Do this process until the slides on both CARBS begin to raise at the EXACT same moment. Lock down the loose adjuster and re-check the slides.

Turn the idle screw on each CARB EXACTLY ONE HALF turn outward and restart the engine. The engine will be probably be idling very fast. Adjust both the idle screws equally from this point to get to the desired idle speed. Congratulations, you have just balanced and synchronized your CARBS This should fix the problem. One last and VERY IMPORTANT thing, Have a fire extinguisher handy and ready for use any time you work on or with he CARBS.
