For the 1984 Ford F150: I do not know if you have the 4.9L In-Line (Straight) 6-Cylinder, the 5.0L V8, or the 5.8L V8; however I have included all below.

firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 distributor rotation is clockwise with cylinder 1 on the cap being toward the front of the engine, a little to the left as seen from the back of the engine. Sorry don't know how to attach graphic
1-4-2-5-3-6 Now you need to know which cylinder is which. If you stand at the front of the truck looking at the engine, the number 1 cylinder is on the left closest to you. The left bank has cylinders 1-3-5 and the right bank has 2-4-6. So number 1 is at the left front and number 6 is at the right rear.
EF & EL are 1,5,3,6,2,4
EF has a coil pack under the inlet manifold the EL has a distributor
EF uses a waste spark system so 2 plugs are fired at the same time eg 1 & 6 - 2 & 5 - 3 & 4
