First question since i am assuming it was just sitting around for some time if i am correct you need to pull the carb remove the float bowl and components if everything was done correctly with your rebuild the likely problem is your carb is gummed up remove everything in the carb low speed jet etc. soak everything in sea foam fuel cleaner overnight and hopefully you have some compressed air and blow out that low speed jet and passage way pay close attention that you have see fluid coming from the other end and check the jet make sure it is unclogged hold it up to the light.

NO! Check the boot between the carb and engine. Very common problem for aged rubber is non-visual cracks. Pull it off and check the boot by kneeding it and looking at it under a light.

SOURCE: My Polaris Sportsman 90 ATV has 70lbs of

70lbs for a 90cc should be good, but 80-85 is better. Compression drops from piston rings wearing out, most of the time. Piston rings wear out from old oil...every time. Rule of Thumb: 5 tanks of gas, change your oil !!! It's not a car !!! A car has 5 quarts of oil which takes about 3 months to break down (2,000 miles or so), 90 cc engine has a half a quart, which takes about 3 weeks to break down (based on everyday use) SO...5 tanks of gas, change your oil..

as for the not starting thing, check for spark (should be a blue spark ONLY, any other, replace plug, orange won't ignite gas) if you haven't been riding for a while, open the drain screw on the bottom the carburetor and drain the water out. Ethanol turns to water when the gas sits too long...

SOURCE: dieing out

have 04 polaris predator 500 doing the same thing, when giving full throttle it seems to be hitting a limiter a couple of 1000 rpm below full rpm, but will only start with air box disconnected from carby and spitting gas out, might be buggered T.P.S unit have bought new Keihin Flat CR carby with T.P.S on it so to replace one on thumb throttle as it has taken some knocks ( should be able to test T.P.S with volt meter when pushing the throttle), a cdi unit and coil will see how that goes.

Have 250 2stroke polaris runs great on top end but sluggish on low end seems like it should rap faster

Remember it is only a 250 but a couple things will cause that problem I have found that 2 stroke engines tend to stop up the exhaust pipe try taking it off replace it with a shorty pipe to test it if it runs like a striped ape the pipe is probably stopped up take out the baffle and clean pipe and muffler good reassemble
then there is the chance that it is low on compression this would constatute a top end rebuild

93 polaris trailboss 350l 4x4 new piston and rings ....no suction at carb

This is not enough info to start. ..Hold the palm of your hand over the back of the carb and make sure its sealed against it... You need a helper to do this properly. The engine should pull on your hand inwards... if not....??
Did a shop or factory trained mechanic do the work? Are the reed valves able to open and stay closed? What does the compression gauge read? If you don't have one, beg borrow, buy, and/or take it to a shop and pay them to check it. Check it with the throttle wide open... with new piston and rings it should pump over 120+psi. ..easily.
Have the compression checked and then repost with the results.
Thanks!

2001 Scrambler 400. What should compression reading be?

With the decompressor active, nominal is 85 - 90 psi. At 62 psi, you have a top end problem. Try dumping a bit of oil in the cylinder and re-test. If the pressure rises, you have a ring seal problem. That sounds like an top end rebuild.

I have a 2000 Polaris 400 that had 30 lbs compression. top end was rebuilt, and cylinder honed. New piston, rings (staggered against stop tabs), wrist pin bearing and pin, and the retainer clips were...

Hey Brandon, there could be several things... one is you put the piston in backwards... the arrow goes toward the exhaust..(if there are holes in the piston, they go in the back).., you installed the wrong piston..or..skirt was too long.., you left something inside the engine..(dropped one of the circlips in the engine).. the rings were installed upside down..,one of the circlips came out..., you got a bad piston..(never seen this happen).., the cylinder needed boring and it had so much clearance that the skirt caught on the intake port lip...

OK...Brandon, repairing this engine correctly is going to require a COMPLETE DISASSEMBLY - there are tiny tiny bits of aluminum in the main bearings, packed in between the main bearings and crank seals.. its in the main rod bearing..and its all in the bottom of the cases... THE ONLY way to effectively remove ALL this is to pull it apart.. this is not a hard job, but if you have never done it, PLEASE take it to a qualified professional.....it requires several special tools... .they may/should be able to tell you what happened to cause it too..
IF you do not do all this, you WILL have premature ENGINE FAILURE AGAIN!!!! and this time it could be worse!

Engine wont start on my polaris big boss 500 6x6 after the piston and rings was replaced

First - Did you find ALL the pieces of the broken piston...if not...STOP and FIND them.. they are in the bottom of the crankcase...you engine WILL NOT live long if you have not gotten ALL the pieces--even the TINIEST ones out!! You mat have more damage than just a broken piston.. something caused it to break.. you may have cracked the crankcases...may have damaged the main bearing(YES) and/or damaged the crank bearing.. see if gas in leaking into the transmission oil.
There is an arrow on the piston that faces toward the EXHAUST port. If there are hole(s) in the piston, they go towards the INTAKE.
Do some more searching and repost the results for review!

I have eh 1989 trail boss 250 i have spark and just cleaned the carb but it still wont start so when i had the carb off i looked in side at the piston while i was rollin it over and it does look like...

I don't have a trial boss 250 but on most 2stroke engines you should never see the top of the piston through the intake port when the carb is removed as the piston doesn't go low enough, thats by design, its the exhaust side you need to look through to see the piston top(crown), if you remove the exhaust to have a look check the condition of the piston rings while there
