Rode home new 883;, next morning bike wouldnt start, battery weak. would not turn engine over. bike is 2009 with 40 miles, bought from dealer

I would get new battery ,and check ground wires.

It sounds as if you have a loose connection. Check all the connections and get the Stator resistance checked.

sounds like battery has a cell down and drains over time

it sound like you may have a alternator discharge problem . Charge the battery take it for a ride when you get back try starting the bike if it starts fine disconect the battery over night then hook it back up the next day if it starts fine their is a draw from something. if it doesn't start you have a bad plate in side the battery discharging it 9replace the battery) if the bike doesn't start after your test ride the the alternator has gone bad or is not hooked up correctly.

hi no way all the guy wants is money any good guy has the right test gear and would test all the charging /starter compnants before replacing the whole caboose buy youself a small cheap volt meter £5/£8 check the battery voltage start motor needle should go up to around 14 put lights on needle should not drop if this is ok then rr and stator is ok stop motor leave lights on if voltage drops rapidly battery is us hope this helps merlinv12

check battery leads (both ends) , Then make sure battery is charged 100% (verry important) Get out your (Digital) volt meter set it to DC volts Connect leads to the Battery, it should have at least 12.6 v , Watch meter and start engine, if meter drops below 10.0 volts your battery may be weak and will have to be replaced, or your starter is'nt mechanicaly efficient and will have to be fixed or replaced. While engine is running note voltage should be 12.6-13v volts, then rev engine to 3000 RPM , meter should read 13.5- 15 vdc. If not you have a problem with your stator or regulator/rectifier.

trickle charge 16 hours on a 1-2 amper charger /after that keep battery charged regularly ie once weekly
