Unhook both ends of your clutch cable if it is binding at all replace it. If the lever on the motor does not go all the way back to riding position (disengaged clutch position). You may have to disassemble the motor to check for a broken spring or damaged clutch engagement mechanism.

Briggs & Stratton 9000 diagram/repair manual. For the pull cord assembly. FREE

If you are going to be repairing B&S air cooled engines, may I suggest that you make a handy tool for repairing the pull cord starter. To access the pull cord assembly, remove the blower housing to expose the backside of the pull starter. All of the B&S pull start engines have a starter clutch that secures the flywheel to the crankshaft. These clutches go bad after a while. Go to a local repair shop and ask if you can have an old B&S starter clutch. Take it apart and keep the spindle. Have someone weld a T bar handle to the spindle. You will use this to reload the spring in the recoil starter, winding backwards to load the spring. Use a C clamp to hold it in place after loading the spring. Insert the new nylon pull rope through the grommet and out through the hole in the rope spool. Tie a figure 8 knot in the end of the new rope. Slowly release the C clamp to allow the spool to rewind, loading itself with new pull cord. You need about +/- 20 inches of pull cord. Replace the rubber handle on the pull cord and you are ready to mount to blower housing back on the engine. I hope this helps. PS. See the attached url for the Operator's Manual for the 9000 horizontal. http://www.tranzsporter.com/tpdf/Briggs%20&%20Stratton%209000.pdf

It sounds to me like a part is missing in the clutch assembly. Bear in mind that the first plate installed in the clutch assembly is a cork friction plate, then metal, cork, metal, ect.. You should end up with a cork friction plate. There should be 6 metal plates and 7 cork friction plates. The diagram below is a tri-z 250. Please rate my answer. Thanks! tombones49_199.gif

The saw break is stuck and won't move and the saw won't start.

If the chainbrake has activated you need to de activate it, pull the hand guard fully back to the top handle, you should hear a clip as the brake locks, if the machine when last used was run with the brake on it has probably over heated the clutch spring and the shoes are now draging on the drum making it near impossible to start, once the brake is of remove the side cover and check the clutch and spring, if you can pull the shoes out by hand the clutch and or spring need to be replaced.

I have just put my clutch and clutch plates back on my dt 125 and when i pull the clutch leaver in it feels like nothing is there and the cable is connected

If it is a hydraulic clutch, i would continue to squeeze handle to build up pressure. If it is only a cable clutch, Re-check your clutch springs that you should have replaced. They should not be all in the same direction.

Handle came off starter rope and rope rewound on spool. Took off power boom and took out tork screws and loosened cover from engine, but there is a metal disc, looks like a clutch cover on the end of the...

You shouldn't have to remove it. Just wide the disk up again to get tension on the recoil spring (lots of tension... enough to pull the rope all the way back in). poke the rope back out the hole ( the hardest part of the job) and put the handle back on. You should be back in action

Clutch cover wont go back on

Your cover probably won't go back on because the kickback/chain brake is on. Pull the handle on the cover back until you hear a click, the it will go on. As for removing the clutch, you need Poulan tool # 530031112 and an impact witha 3/4 socket. If you're just trying to reset chain break, removing clutch is not necessary, just pull back on handle as I said before.
