I see more on a timing chains than belts

I have no idea what GM 3.6 motors have belts
or chains,seems mostly chains

Replace timing belt first.

either a siezed distributor if its on the end of the cam or the timinig is wrong and the valves are hitting the pistons

CAMSHAFT SPROCKETS HAS TIMING MARK ON IT.YOU NEED TO BUY A REPAIR MANUAL TO SEE WHERE ON THE CAMSHAFT SRROCKET THE TIMING MARK LOCATED.YOU DONT WANT TO TAKE A CHANCE GUESSING AND DAMAGE ENGINE VALVES AND PISTONS.

The timing chain usually lasts a long time, and if you don't hear a lot of rattling, it's probably ok.

Timinig belts(replace every 80,000 mi.) seem to wear out faster than timing chains which when properly maintained through oil changes can last for the life of the car's engine.

I expect to get about 200,000 mi. on my 1990 Cadillac Deville which has a timing chain in it, and has just gotten to 192,000 mi. recently.

go to bursons or repco an get the book or ask if u can look at it to see the marks

if it's a 2.4 twin cam, not gonna be fun 6 hrs min, remove timinig chain cover, timing chain, and housing, next remove exhaust manifold, the you can get to it, sorry gotthe same car

youre probably looking at 600 to 800 dollars to have the car repaired
