We are still trying to locate a CDi unit for the bike. Michael43 suggested I try BikeBandit.com, which we did, made an order, paid for it etc. Four hours later we got an email stating that the Manufactureer has discontinued this item and the order would be cancelled. We are now back to square one and are appealing to your experts to help us locate it. Can anyone help please?

Hi: I live in central Victoria Australia

  • Anonymous Oct 13, 2010

Thanks for that, I have tried eBay, the closest one is for a 1990 model, Is this compatable?

  • Anonymous Oct 14, 2010

Hi: Our mechanic tells us that the 1992 model ZZR is different. The 1990 model has a Part No 21119-1284, the 1992 Part No is 21119-1348. We have tried numerous Bike shop and Wreckers here in Victoria with no luck, overseas may be our only chance.

I just looked at E-bay, and two show up, used.
Also, google "motorcycle salvage", as I have had good luck in finding older parts used.

hi the cheapest option would be ebay, im still looking for shops local to your country but im in Uk but ill let you know if i find anything in your country, any parts i cant find in shops you can usually get on ebay and most parts are from businesses and not private sellers so you usually get some warranty on the parts,

  • Anonymous Oct 13, 2010

hi yes it should be as it runs off the same power things like that will be interchangable just ask the buyer if he can show you a photo of the connections to make sure their the same but im pretty sure you should be ok with that, one other thing you can do is phone your nearest kawasaki dealership and ask them to check on their system if you can get through to the parts department they will be able to bring the list up on their internal system and check if the part numbers match, try that first before if you can get hold of a kawasaki dealer who will help you the part numbers, most will help you no problems,
but as far as i can tell their going to be the same just double check the connections and you should be ok see if they can take a photo of the connections for you before you make a bid

Can't Start 1981 Yamaha SR250

find a running sr 250 and swop his cdi unit with yours if the bike runs, fine. if not put his cdi back in and try again. if the good bike now starts it will indicate that your cdi is faulty. the cdi is located under the tank inside the frame. don't buy a second hand cdi unless you can test it on a working bike. they are very expensive and you don't want to buy a dud

Gilera cougar no spark

Not knowing about Gilera but Some general suggestions for ignition problems control if applicable could be: a bobin(coil) sparkplug plugconnector control the gap between flywheel and ignition coil, contact points, contact breaker to mass can have a problem or even a cable,a rotor under distributor hood. or ignition not on time,
If ordering for an engine an ignition coil don't forget always to give up the serialmotor number and year of build to the seller because of marketing technical modifications can be made in the same production year of different ignition coils or flywheels and other.

Has no spark and i have put brand new plugs in cbr 600 2002

More times than not it is the ignition control device. It used to be called a CDI box. Try checking your wiring plugs by tracing the system from the coils. It can be the coils but normally the CDI goes first. If that is the case try ebaymotors for a new one or powersportseast.com. You can look up parts for your bike on the dealers parts fische. Also for a better discount bikebandit.com. You should buy a manual if it is in your budget. This would help you narrow it down on your own and you would have the many other topics it covers at your finger tips
