Yamaha Teos 125 will not start

I have a yamaha teos 125 scooter... it was working fine but now it will not start. the engine turns over but wont kick in... i have checked the spark plug and all seems to be ok, is there anything else i should be looking at? could it be because water has got in somewhere? i was also wondering if the teos has a kill-switch that i could have accidentally pressed? if so where would it be???

    WHEN YOU SAY YOU HAVE CHECKED THE SPARK PLUG DOES THAT MEAN YOU ARE GETTING SPARK AT THE PLUG? dO YOU KNOW HOW TO CHECK FOR SPARK?

SOURCE: bike wont start

Hi,

Initially, pls check/verify:

  • left ignition coil goes to #1 & #4 plugs while right ign coil supplies 2 & 3;
  • presence of spark on each and all of the plugs;
  • temporarily remove the air cleaner/filter box/assembly and cover each crb opening with the palm of your hand while cranking. presence of gas would be noted with fuel on your palm;
  • engine flooded. remove, clean, dry/replace plugs.
Incidentally, if no spark on plugs, check connectors to CDI, or starting with the clutch lever pulled.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: no spark

It sounds to me like the repair shop has connected the ignition wire ( the wire going to the + side of the coil ) to the wrong switch terminal. Take a volt ohm meter and connect the ground wire to the negitive ( - ) side of the battery and expose the ignition switch terminals. With the switch in the OFF position check for volatge on all the terminals. Make note of any terminals showing a 12 volt reading. That is probably the feed line from your battery. Turn the switch to the ON or RUN position and check for a terminal other than the one which gave you a reading before. note and mark this terminal. Locate the coil. There are 2 thin ( 18 guage ) wires attached to the coil. One goes to the distributer and the other goes to the ignition switch. Isolate that wire and reattach it to the connection on the ignition switch you marked earlier...
Good luck,

SOURCE: 2004 Yamaha V-star 650, wont start.

change the coil you may not think it got hot but sometimes a coil can overheat on the inside just enough to break the copper winding. when riding hard slow down for a couple of miles to give everything time to get back to normal temps before shutting it off

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Since there is spark, then the only other possible missing component would be fuel. Drain the carb by loosening the drain screw. Check draining fuel's quantity and quality. If no draining fuel, then spray starting fluid to the carb air intake. The fuel cutoff valve (petc0ck) is vacuum activated. It would only allow fuel to flow if there is vacuum (i.e. when the engine is running). The irony is the engine will only start/run if there is initial fuel in the carb.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

Can any 1 tell me where the battery is on a yamaha teos please

under the seat, normally to be accessed from the side. nore where the plastic panels are on the left and right hand side ? the battery is behind one of those. Sometimes you may need to remove of flip the seat up to access it properly.

I have a Yamaha Teos 125 reg.'04 and the fuel /battery indicator gauge fluctuates from one side to the other when the ignition is switched on. I have disconnected the battery for a short time,but it has...

This is normal and only shows the battery voltage and then swings over to show your fuel tank level so nothing to worry about.This will happen on every turn of the ignition and when switching off it reverts to the battery voltage position so if you cam eover to your bike in the morning for example(with a good battery the day before) the needle would have gone lower before switching to the petrol level indicating a weak battery so it;s only a condition check, as with cars whoi have airbags etc that show all lights then switch them off if all is okay.These are lovely powerfull mopeds and if you look after it and service it it will last many miles trouble free.
