With a model number located on the machine, parts are readily available online through searspartsdirect.com

Additionally, I've had good luck with the items you need at our local Lowes hardware stores.

How to change string?

Hello,

If you look at the bottom of the string holder (flipping the machine over) there should be either two tabs on the side across from each other that you press and pull, OR a twist and pull. There are several pieces, the inner piece that the string comes on has a hole that the string goes into to hold the string in place (needle nose pliers--press into hole). Then there is an arrow on the string holder, just wind the string in the direction of the arrow (does not have to be perfect) until you get enough on the holder. Now, hold the string so that the spool does not unravel--feed the end through the hole(s) and replace parts as they came off of the trimmer.

I hope this helps.

How to feed trimmer line on y25 yard trimmer gas

Depending on what type of string head you have. If it's a "tap and go" style head, just rev it up full throttle and tap it on the ground. It should feed the string out and the blade on the shield will cut off the string to the correct length.

Homelite trimmer, gas, string - y is the string wrapping itself around the head of the trimmer?

The line on my new 26cc Homelite would also feed out by itself. That started me thinking the line was wound backwards. I wrapped the line in the opposite direction as was shown on the bump feed reel and now the dang thing works although the bump feed needs to be "bumped" pretty hard to work. Is it possible that the reel was manufactured with the (string direction) arrows pointing the wrong direction? The new 26cc unit is also underpowered compared to my older 25cc trimmer.

Troy built weed eater won't feed line

Check the size of the line,(OD), make sure you are using the correct size, sometimes cheap line will be problematic, also, you said you are re-stringing it, try a new batch of string, the old string inside the hub can get chaffed and will stick to itself...

Ryobi Trimmer

To install string in the Ryobi you do not have to disassemble anything: Line up the two arrows on the inner and outer reel, remove any excess string, cut two pieces of string about 10 feet, feed line in the side holes, secure line in hole where it comes out the bottom (it only takes about 1/4in. to do so), pull strings tight, then turn the inner reel counter clockwise to wind it. If it sticks a little just pull line a little.
To remove the inner spool in order to remove line that has broken inside, to clean the mechanism, or to perform other maintenance, grasp the outer reel and unscrew the bump knob counter-clockwise. Mine is often very tight and requires pliers to get enough leverage. While you are in there, clean the inner reel and the inside of the outer reel to improve feed performance. The shaft rarely needs cleaning. Do not lubricate. After re-installing the reel, add string (0.080") as described above.
