I was driving and the rpm's decreased and the speed wouldn't go over 20. later in the day the engine light came on. I took it for an oil change a few days before but doubt that has anything to do w/ it....

most likely torque converter problem if fluid is decreasing, but could be other problems my advice take it to a good transmission shop or the dealer, also you can if you want retrieve the code in the computer by following the instructions in the repair manual ex:haynes or chiltons for retrieving the codes from the ecu or you can buy an OBDI dianostic scanner from local parts store

95 honda accord: rpm's increased well the mph decreased

Assuming you meant "RPMs Increased as speed decreased." This is usually referred to as a "slipping" condition in an automatic transmission. It's much like when your clutch wears out and it starts to slip. THe engine revs up and you go slower! Especially driving up hills since the load is greater on the powerplant. You should be darn sure you are full of Trans. fluid. Check it properly like your manual describes. If you are in the operating range of fliud level, your transmission is likely going out. If this sounds like your problem, take the car to a qualified service center, not the local quickie oil-change outfit, for an expert opinion.

1998 Honda Accord stalls intermittently

There was a recall related to this a few years ago. I know because my engine began shutting off on the interstate and other driving situations. You may be able to search for the recall or just take it in to a Honda dealership and tell them that you received a recall notice related to your ignition switch a while back and your car has been stalling out while driving. I believe a replacement of the ignition switch will fix your problem. I haven't had any problems since. The dealership shouldn't charge you anything for the repair.

Your best investment is a Haynes Repair Manual, either from your local Auto Zone or similiar retailer or online: http://www.haynes.com/products/searchType/vehicleApplicationSearch2/searchEnd/yes/sfID1//sfID2//sfID3//year/1997/make/Honda/model/Accord/x/20/y/3/productID/193. Step by step instructions on troubleshooting, repair or replacement, based on a complete teardown and rebuild.
