Last night on the ride home, the speedometer was reading twice the speed I was going. When stopped, it went to zero, but at 50 mph, it read 100 mph. I think I know how to remove the center console so I can look at the back side of the speedometer. Any suggestions ????? 2003 Road King Classic

I'd pull the speedometer sensor out of the transmission and wipe it off. Sometimes, a bit of metal will get on the sensor and mess it up. If that doesn't work, I really don't know what to tell you as I don't mess with the electronics on the newer bikes.

Good Luck

My 05 Focus speedometer is wacky. All other gauges and systems work fine. The speedometer needle doesn't go to zero when vehicle stops moving.

Sounds like the speedometer is faulty. If the speed sensor were the problem, the odometer would not work correctly, the transmission would not shift correctly, and the check engine light would be on.

I would suspect you have a faulty electronic speedo head, have the cluster removed and have it sent out for repair of the problem. There is no at home repair procedure for this problem, it takes special equip to repair the speedo.

Speedometer Gauge Slipping - Inaccurate Reading

I had a car that did this to me. It started happening last year so I took it in and they were baffled. Lesson learned never take a car to a big chain store for a difficult diagnosis. They just told me to let my car warm up for 5 minutes and it would be fine. If I let it warm up it was good. This winter it started doing it again but it would do it all the time even after I let it warm up. I never bothered bringing it in again because it was dieing. If you are truly concerned take it into a mechanic ( a good one) and have them diagnose it. Your spedometer cable could just be wearing out.
