Hello there. I've recently bought a 54reg mk5 golf 2.0 gt fsi and the engine is making a tapping noise - even when it's been running. Is this normal?

no testing it is replace them with new

Have a pressure test done on the transmission for ban/clutch adjustment

no KNOCKING sound is normal have oil pressure checked

SOUND LIKE YOUR FUEL INJECTORS CLOGGED.FILL UP FUEL TANK.PUT A BOTTLE OF FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER IN FUEL TANK.DRIVE A FEW MILES SO THE CLEANER CAN FLUSH OUT DIRTY INJECTORS.THIS SHOULD HELP.IF PROBLEM STILL EXIST.HAVE IT SCANNED.

Sounds like a problem with the fuel level float/sending unit in the fuel tank.

It sounds like the hydraulic lifters are bleeding down after sitting for a while... there are ball checks which are supposed to prevent this... Try using a good engine flush (a product that frees sticky lifters) and replace the oil with a good synthetic... Hope this helps...;-)

the FSI engine is a direct injection engine and they can be noisy particulaly on idle ,if you have no other issues like warning lights lack of power and its always been like it then i sugest it is the nature of the beast .this is not ******** i am a vw master tech and have had many a conversation with customers about noisy FSI engines.hope this puts your mind at rest,alternativly go to VW dealer and get them to take a listen to confirm its normal.cheers

In hot weather you will hear the Aux fan running. It can be very loud sometimes.

You will need "VAG diagnostic software" - (google it) on a laptop and a £15 VAGCOM interface cable if you want to do it yourself.
