What does the message Er5 mean on a Kintrex IRT0421 ?

In my case the answer is: it's time to buy a new one. I called Kintrex and they haven't made infrared thermometers for 5 years and could not answer any questions about them. I found a similar item made by Thermoworks and despite their product's similar specs and similar error codes the technical people there did not know what Er 5 means, and suggested removing the batteries and letting the machine sit for 10 minutes or more to "reset". I've tried that to no avail.

My ER5 Clicks instead of turns on

Check if the battery has 12 volts.
Check the battery terminals if they are corroded with acid deposit. Clean them if they are, by using a wet sponge, wet it with water and let it stay for a while on the terminals this will ease off the corroded acid deposits.
If the battery is ok and if there's no acid deposit on the terminals , thn you have to check the starter motor, it may need to be overhauled.
Better too to check the solenoid switch.
Hope this helps!

How do I derestrict my 2006 Kawasaki ER5 please?

I assume it has been restricted to 33bhp for use on an A1 license?

If so it will either have been done through the ECU if your bike is fuel injected. Or (more likely) it is carbs then there will be large washers inside the inlet rubbers restricting the bore of the carbs. If you take the carbs off and pull these out you'll have access to your bikes full potential.

I have just bought an 03 Kawasaki 500 ER5 it has a noise from thn

Best would be to examine tht noise, put your bike on the center stand and get an assistant to sit on it so tht the front wheel is thn free to rotate.
Rotate the wheel and try to locate the noise...not bad if you start at the brake pads!
Hope this helps!

Can't remove rear brake panel and shoes from brake drum on ER5.

if the rear shoes have jammed the way i normally fix this problem is to undo and remove the arm so you are left with the spline sticking out. then knock this in carefully and it should release the shoes and you should be able to remove the hub.

My rev counter does not work on my kawasaki er5 1999

The ER5 has got an electronic rev-counter, no cable.

Like the oval rear brake-drums this is another ER5 bugbear, the rec/rec fails, the battery boils and the rev-counter is usually a victim too.
Often on ER5 specific forums there will be someone who repairs the circuit board and sells the repaired units much cheaper than a new one. it's usually a tiny zener-diode that is killed.

Problems getting the bike moving

Have you had the clutch checked? Cause that's where it sounds like the problem is. My HD tried that same ****,adjusted the clutch, fine for a while, then it happened again. Turned out my clutch cable was popping loose in the hand-lever one wire at a time. Repaired that and no probs since.
So, I'd check the cable first and if it's good I'd have the clutch plates etc. checked. Good luck.

My er5 runs rough when i ease off on throttle and go back on bike shakes and picks up speed i have cleaned carbs changed plugs and oil+filter

Hi there Dave
I would check Carby setting. Like float levels, Mixture screw setting. These can make the bike run
roughily. Also the spark plugs settings, eg not right gap or heat range or ever reach. One other thing
is vacuum leak eg from a vacuum hose ( this usely makes the bike run rough all the time) Simple way
to test this is use a can of WD 40 & spray over the vacuum hoses & if it stops the problem for a short
time you need to replace the hose or fix the leak. I hope this helps your problem, if not please put up
some more info on what you have done to help you There is many little things that can course is
problem.
